Deel Engineering Jobs: How to Apply in 2026 (And Why Only 33 of 302 Open Roles Are Engineering)

Standout Editorial Team13 min read · August 24, 2026

We built Standout because the application-driven job search hides the information that decides the outcome, and Deel's careers page is a clean example. Every page ranking for this query points you at the same 302-role board and the same apply button. None of them tells you that only 33 of those roles are engineering, that a large share are not open to a US candidate at all, or that the company is currently defending federal racketeering and trade-secret claims that it denies.

Deel is a $17.3B global payroll and employment platform that crossed $1.5B in ARR in the first half of 2026. Its careers board lists 302 open roles. Thirty-three are engineering. Ninety-one are sales. And the engineering reqs are region-scoped remote, Italy, LATAM, not US headquarters jobs, which changes who can actually apply.

Thirty-three of 302. Read the board before you read the careers page

Deel's careers page says "Built for the ones who build" and sells work-from-anywhere roles across 80+ countries (Source: Deel careers). It is well-written and it tells an engineer nothing. The board tells you everything.

The department rows Deel enumerates add up to 279. The board total is 302, so 23 roles sit in categories the page does not break out. We are reporting both numbers rather than quietly reconciling them.

Engineering is 33 of 302 open roles (Source: Deel careers board). Sales is 91. Deel has more open payroll-operations reqs than engineering reqs (Source: Deel careers board). Not one page ranking for this search publishes that breakdown, which is why so many engineers read "302 open positions" as a wide-open door and start writing a cover letter.

Check the department count on any careers page before you spend a weekend on an assessment. The headline role count is almost never the role count that applies to you.

What a nearly 3-to-1 sales-to-engineering ratio actually tells you

Deel went from $4M in ARR in 2020 to a $1B run rate by early 2025 (Source: Wikipedia), and past $1.5B in the first half of 2026, across more than 40,000 business customers and roughly $22B in annual payroll processed (Source: Calcalist). It raised $300M at a $17.3B valuation in October 2025 (Source: TechCrunch).

A company at that point is not staffing a platform build-out. It is staffing distribution into 150+ countries. That is exactly what 91 sales reqs against 33 engineering reqs describes, a ratio of 2.8 to 1 (Source: Deel careers board).

This cuts both ways and both ways are worth saying. Fewer engineering reqs at a company this size means each one is more specific and more senior, which is good news if you are a strong senior engineer with the exact shape they want. It is bad news if you were hoping volume hiring would carry a borderline profile through, because there is no volume here to hide in. If you are mid-level and betting on getting swept up in a hiring wave, this is the wrong board this quarter.

One candidate was rejected in five minutes

Here is what applying to this company actually looks like from the outside. From Blind, a candidate: "I just submitted my application to Deel, and I kid y'all not... not even like 5 minutes have passed and I've received a rejection email." (Source: Blind)

Another describes the opposite failure. The recruiter "swore the next interview would be the last", then a week of silence, then a form rejection reading "we unfortunately cannot continue with the process" (Source: Blind).

These are two individual accounts, not a measured rejection rate, and we are not going to dress them up as one. Deel has not published anything about how it screens or what triggers an automated pass. That is a real gap and it stays a gap.

What the five-minute rejection does tell you is structural, and it is not really about Deel. Nobody read that resume. A door that 33 engineering reqs face the entire internet through has to have a filter in front of it, and the filter runs before a human is involved. That is the part of the funnel most candidates never see and cannot appeal, because there is no person on the other end of it yet.

From the matches we run at Standout, the pattern that keeps repeating is that the cold application is the only channel where a candidate is evaluated by a system built to reduce volume rather than to find them. Everything downstream of an introduction is a conversation with someone who has already decided you are worth an hour. Everything upstream of one is a queue. The engineers we represent are not better at applying than anyone else. They just spend less of their life in the queue. That is why cold applications underperform even when the applicant is genuinely qualified.

The screen is a 105-minute HackerRank test, not the "take-home" every guide describes

Third-party interview guides describe Deel's process as four sequential stages, a phone screen, a take-home test, a technical interview, and a final with the department head, with roughly a three-week turnaround from application to decision (Source: 4dayweek.io). That is a third-party guide, not Deel's published process, and it is worth holding loosely.

Because a first-hand account describes something different. A candidate with four years of experience reports: "I have an OA with Deel. They have sent me hackerRank link and the duration of OA is 105 mins." (Source: Blind) A timed 105-minute automated assessment is not an untimed take-home. Those are different tests, they reward different preparation, and the sources conflict. When they conflict, weight the person who took the test over the guide describing it.

Deel publishes no policy on whether you may use AI in that assessment, and no third-party guide covers it either. We are not going to guess it for you. Ask the recruiter in writing before you start, and keep the reply. An unpublished AI policy is the company's ambiguity to own, not the candidate's risk to absorb, and a written answer converts it into their problem instead of yours.

What the 33 reqs screen for, and the number they will not publish

RequirementWhat Deel's posting saysWhy it is there
Experience"at least 8 years of experience as a Software Engineer"Senior-weighted board, not volume hiring
Primary languageNode.js, TypeScript/JavaScriptCore platform stack
Second language"at least one other server-side language"Polyglot services
DatabasePostgreSQL: query optimization, migrations, modelingTransactional system of record
CloudAWS, serverless a bonusPlatform infrastructure
Load profileLarge transaction volumes, concurrency, idempotency, performance under load~$22B annual payroll across 150+ countries
Working styleProactive communication, strong async collaborationRegion-scoped remote teams

Requirements quoted from Deel's Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js + AWS) posting (Source: Deel job posting); payroll volume from Calcalist.

The load-profile line is the one that matters and it is not boilerplate. Concurrency and idempotency show up in that req because this is a system moving roughly $22B in annual payroll across more than 150 countries (Sources: Calcalist, Deel job posting). A duplicate write here is not a bug ticket. It is someone's rent paid twice, in a jurisdiction with its own rules about how you claw it back. Money-movement engineering is a specific discipline and these reqs are screening for it on purpose.

So put it at the top of your profile. If you have run high-volume transactional systems, that belongs above the framework names, because the framework names are the cheapest thing on the page and every other applicant already has them.

Then there is the number. Every candidate researching this company goes to Levels.fyi next, so we did. A direct fetch of Deel's Software Engineer page returned India-scoped compensation, a ₹6.16M median, rather than US bands, because the page geo-localizes and Deel's US submissions are thin. There is no verified US engineering band for Deel, and we are not inventing one. Any US Deel salary figure you see quoted on an aggregator is either another country's data wearing a dollar sign, or a guess.

Which means the number gets set in a conversation. Get the band from the recruiter on the first call, before the 105 minutes, not after.

These are not US jobs, and that is the part nobody tells you

Deel's engineering postings are scoped to regions rather than to a headquarters. The Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js + AWS) req is based in Italy. There is a Senior Backend Engineer, NodeJS scoped to LATAM. The reqs ask for proactive communication and strong asynchronous collaboration across distributed teams (Source: Deel job posting), and the company hires across 80+ countries (Source: Deel careers).

For a US-based reader that means a meaningful share of those 33 engineering reqs are not open to you at all, and the work-from-anywhere framing on the careers page hides it rather than flagging it.

Being straight about our own limits here: Standout is US-only. For the non-US portion of Deel's engineering board we are no help to you whatsoever, and you should apply directly.

Read the location line on the req before you read anything else. At a genuinely global employer it is a filter, not a footnote.

Page one does not mention that Deel is defending a RICO case

On February 13, 2026, Judge Charles Breyer of the US District Court for the Northern District of California allowed Rippling's federal racketeering and trade-secret claims against Deel to proceed, finding that Rippling "has made sufficient allegations that Deel had violated federal racketeering and trade secret laws" and rejecting Deel's motion-to-dismiss arguments (Source: Bloomberg Law).

Deel denies the allegations. It filed federal counterclaims in April 2026, stating "From the beginning, we have denied these allegations and remained focused on serving our customers," and characterizing the case as "about holding Rippling accountable for its decision to compete through intimidation, misinformation campaigns, and attempts to manipulate public perception." (Source: Deel) Rippling first sued in March 2025. The case is in discovery, there is no settlement, and in July 2026 Deel moved to strike the central witness on the grounds that he has effectively refused to testify (Source: Bloomberg).

To be precise about what that is and is not: these are allegations that survived a motion to dismiss. They are not findings of liability. Nobody has been found to have done anything, and this article is not telling you to avoid Deel.

The point is narrower. Every result on the first page for this search is a careers page, an aggregator, or an interview guide, and not one of them mentions any of it. A candidate can research this company for an hour through the channels built for exactly that purpose and never encounter the largest publicly-litigated fact about it. Deel's own careers page, meanwhile, is running "Built for the ones who build." (Source: Deel careers)

Unresolved RICO exposure is a diligence item on an equity package, not a character verdict, and the candidate who finds out after signing found out too late. It is also worth noting what the board says about where the company is spending: Risk & Compliance carries 11 open reqs and IT & Security 4 (Source: Deel careers board). That is not an accusation. It is a company staffing its controls, which is what you would want it to be doing.

The mechanics, if you are applying: go to deel.com/careers/open-roles, filter by department first and location second. Ignore the jobs.ashbyhq.com/deel URL that search engines still surface, because its public posting API returns zero postings and the live board is Deel's own (Source: Deel careers board). Ignore the LinkedIn "40,000+ Deel jobs" result entirely. That counts jobs mentioning Deel across the whole market, not roles at Deel.

And if the honest read of this board is that 33 reqs, most of them outside the US and all of them senior, is a thin door for the effort involved, that is the read. Standout matches US tech professionals with companies hiring at this stage, and when you say yes, we introduce you directly to the founder. You never apply and it is free for candidates. It is worth understanding how Standout's matching works before you spend another weekend on an assessment, and how that compares to job boards where you are one of the applications the filter is built to reduce.

FAQ

How many engineering jobs does Deel have open?

Thirty-three, out of 302 open roles across the whole company (Source: Deel careers board). Sales has 91 and Payroll has 48, so engineering is about 11% of Deel's current hiring (Source: Deel careers board).

Where do you actually apply for Deel engineering jobs?

At deel.com/careers/open-roles, Deel's own board. The jobs.ashbyhq.com/deel URL still ranks in search but its public posting API returns zero postings, and the LinkedIn result advertising "40,000+ Deel jobs" is counting jobs across the market that mention Deel, not roles at the company.

What is Deel's interview process for engineers?

Third-party guides describe four stages, a phone screen, a take-home, a technical interview and a final with the department head, over roughly three weeks (Source: 4dayweek.io). A first-hand candidate account describes the screen as a timed 105-minute HackerRank assessment instead (Source: Blind). Deel does not publish its process, so treat both as partial.

What does Deel pay software engineers in the US?

Nobody has published a verified number. Levels.fyi geo-localizes and returns non-US data for Deel's Software Engineer page, and Deel's reqs do not post bands. Ask the recruiter for the range on the first call.

Are Deel engineering jobs remote and open to US candidates?

They are remote, but region-scoped rather than global. Postings are attached to specific regions such as Italy or LATAM (Source: Deel job posting), and Deel hires across 80+ countries, (Source: Deel careers) so a meaningful share of the 33 engineering reqs are not open to a US-based applicant. Read the location line on the req first.

Stop guessing which of the 33 reqs is open to you. Standout is an AI talent agent for US tech professionals. We match you with companies hiring at this stage, and when you say yes, we introduce you directly to the founder. You never apply, and it is free for candidates. First matches arrive within hours.
