Vue Engineers in 2026: The Pay Follows Nuxt, Not the Framework Name

Standout Editorial Team9 min read ·

A Vue engineer builds web interfaces with Vue.js, the JavaScript framework 18.4% of professional developers use. In 2026 the premium sits one layer up: US senior Vue engineers earn $145K to $185K, and those with production Nuxt experience earn $155K to $195K, while only 4.1% of developers report Nuxt work (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, KORE1).

Vue engineers in 2026, by the numbers

For every developer who reports serious Nuxt work, roughly four and a half report serious Vue work. That ratio comes straight from the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey: 18.4% of professional developers did extensive Vue work over the past year, and 4.1% did extensive Nuxt work (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025). Nuxt is the full-stack framework built on Vue, and it is where the top of the Vue pay band lives.

Vue is a smaller market than React, and Nuxt is a smaller market inside Vue. The pay rows show which of those two scarcities employers actually price.

One caution on the download row. npm counts installs, including every CI run and every package that pulls Vue in as a dependency. It measures footprint, not headcount, so read it as the size of the ecosystem rather than the number of jobs (Source: npm registry).

We read the 2026 data one way: Vue's premium moved up the stack

We built Standout because the application-driven job search is broken, and the Vue market is one of the clearest examples: the postings say "Vue," the pay says "Nuxt."

A $10K lift at the floor of the senior band is what production Nuxt experience buys. KORE1, a US staffing firm, puts senior Vue base pay at $145K to $185K and senior engineers with production Nuxt at $155K to $195K, with mid-level Vue at $110K to $145K (Source: KORE1). The engineer at the top of the Vue market is not the one with the cleanest component library. It is the one who can render on the server, write the API route behind the page and deploy it.

The framework behind that premium got more durable in 2025, not less. Nuxt 4.0 shipped on July 15, 2025 as a stability-focused major release, with a new app/ directory structure, smarter data fetching and better TypeScript support (Source: Nuxt Blog). A week earlier, on July 8, NuxtLabs, the company behind Nuxt and its Nitro server engine, joined Vercel. Sébastien Chopin, Daniel Roe, Pooya Parsa and Anthony Fu came with it, and Vercel committed that Nuxt and Nitro stay MIT-licensed with a public roadmap and open governance (Source: Vercel).

Our read: Vercel, the company behind Next.js, now also employs the core team behind Nuxt. That kills the most common objection a hiring manager raises against a Vue full-stack hire, which is whether the framework will still be funded in three years.

A Vue engineer who has never shipped server code is competing in the crowded 18%, not the thin 4%.

Vue-only vs Nuxt-capable: what the extra $10K buys the employer

The gap between the two profiles is not about knowing more Vue. It is about owning more of the product.

Pay bands from KORE1, a staffing firm, not a survey. Usage shares from Stack Overflow 2025.

A client-rendered Vue app needs a backend engineer somewhere to feed it. A Nuxt engineer writes the server route, decides what gets cached and ships the page already rendered. For a seed or Series A team with four engineers, that is the difference between hiring one person and hiring two. That is our read of why the band moves. From what we hear across the hiring managers we work with, a full-stack frontend hire is bought for coverage, not syntax.

The honest caveat: the premium rests on one staffing firm's bands. No public survey prices Nuxt separately from Vue. Treat the $10K as a floor to test in a negotiation, not a law.

The Nuxt premium is really a "one fewer hire" premium. Pitch it that way.

Vue 2 ended in 2023. Your résumé should say which Vue.

Vue 2 reached end of life on December 31, 2023. It gets no new features, updates or fixes. The only path to security patches is a paid extended-support product, Never-Ending Support from HeroDevs (Source: Vue.js).

That cuts two ways for a candidate, and both are useful.

The existence of a paid support product means some companies still run Vue 2 in production and are paying to postpone the migration. Nobody publishes how many, so we won't guess. But every one of those codebases is a migration project waiting for an owner, and an engineer who has already moved an app from the Options API to the Composition API and from Vuex to Pinia has a concrete story to sell.

The other edge: "five years of Vue" with four of them on Vue 2 now reads as stale, not senior. The Vue 3 baseline an interviewer assumes is the Composition API, Pinia, TypeScript and Vite (Source: KORE1). If the résumé doesn't name those, the reader assumes the older stack.

That timeline is leverage. KORE1 says a direct-hire Vue search takes five to nine weeks, and runs longer for senior Vue 3 roles that require production Nuxt experience (Source: KORE1). Employers are waiting weeks for the exact profile a Vue 3 and Nuxt engineer already has. If you fit that profile, you are the scarce side of the table. Negotiate like it.

Where Vue runs, and why the market is smaller than React's

Vue is not a niche framework. Monterail, a Vue development agency, lists GitLab (which moved its core platform from jQuery to Vue), Adobe Portfolio and Behance, Nintendo's regional websites, Xiaomi, The Motley Fool, Livestorm, 9GAG and Easyship among its production users (Source: Monterail). Vue School's 2025 review reports that 93% of developers surveyed plan to use Vue for their next project (Source: Vue School). The community is active in the US too: VueConf US ran May 19-21, 2026 in Atlanta, hosted by Evan You, Vue's creator, and the core team (Source: VueConf US).

It is still the smaller market, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. React shows up in 46.9% of professional developers' work against Vue's 18.4% (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025). On npm, react out-downloaded vue roughly 11 to 1 in the last week of September 2026 (Source: npm registry). We found no reliable public count of US job postings by framework, so treat any confident posting number with suspicion. Every proxy that does exist points the same direction.

Vue is the smaller market, which is exactly why depth in it gets noticed. A React engineer competes with half the profession. A Vue 3 engineer with production Nuxt competes with a sliver of it, for roles where the employer has already spent weeks looking.

From the matches we run, the pattern we see across frontend roles is simple: the candidates who get placed fastest are not the ones with the longest framework list. They are the ones whose profile makes the fit obvious in one read.

How to position a Vue résumé in 2026

Lead every bullet with scope and outcome, and name the version. Three illustrative formats (examples of shape, not real claims):

  • "Vue 2 to Vue 3 migration, 140 components: Options to Composition API, Vuex to Pinia, zero-downtime rollout."
  • "Nuxt 4 storefront: moved product pages to server-side rendering with Nitro server routes; cut time-to-first-byte 40%."
  • "Design system in Vue 3 and TypeScript: 60 components, adopted by four product teams."

Then pick the move that fits you. No hedging here.

  • Vue 3 SPA engineer: add Nuxt server work before your next search. Ship one server route and one SSR page in production. That is the move from the $145K-$185K band toward $155K-$195K (Source: KORE1).
  • Vue 2-heavy résumé: lead with the migration, name the Vue 3 version, and delete "X years of Vue." Vue 2 has been unsupported since the end of 2023, and the reader knows it (Source: Vue.js).
  • Bay Area, New York or Seattle: anchor on the city bands, which run 10-15% above the national figures. Remote roles compress them slightly, so price a remote offer on its own terms (Source: KORE1).
  • Weighing a switch to React for "more jobs": don't, if you already have Nuxt in production. You would trade a thin field for a crowded one to chase a posting count no public source measures.

The channel matters as much as the résumé. Sending the same Vue résumé into job-board queues puts you in a stack sorted by keyword.

FAQ

Is Vue.js still worth learning in 2026?

Yes. 18.4% of professional developers use it, 93% of developers in the survey Vue School cites plan to use it for their next project, and companies like GitLab and Adobe run it in production (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, Vue School, Monterail). It is a smaller market than React, so learn it deeply rather than as a second checkbox.

How much do Vue engineers make in the US?

KORE1 puts base pay at $110K-$145K for mid-level, $145K-$185K for senior, and $155K-$195K for senior engineers with production Nuxt, plus 10-15% in the Bay Area, New York and Seattle (Source: KORE1). KORE1 also cites a Glassdoor average of $116,481, with the middle half earning $87,608 to $156,300 (Source: KORE1, citing Glassdoor).

Is Vue 2 still supported?

No. Vue 2 reached end of life on December 31, 2023; security fixes now come only through HeroDevs' paid Never-Ending Support (Source: Vue.js).

Should you learn Nuxt as a Vue engineer?

Yes. Only 4.1% of professional developers report extensive Nuxt work, it carries the top Vue pay band, and it went stable at version 4.0 in July 2025, with its core team now inside Vercel (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, KORE1, Nuxt Blog, Vercel).

Are there fewer Vue jobs than React jobs?

By every public proxy, yes: React leads Vue 46.9% to 18.4% in professional use and roughly 11 to 1 in npm downloads (Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, npm registry). No reliable public count of US postings by framework exists.
