Electrical / Electronics Engineering Technician (Prototyping & Low-Volume Manufacturing) Preferred Location: Ottawa Reports to: Head of Hardware Type: Full-Time About Dominion Dynamics See everything. Defend what matters. Dominion Dynamics is building tomorrow’s technology today: sovereign, next-generation defence systems for the harshest environments on Earth. We’re delivering a software-defined command and control capability that lets Canada and its allies see, respond, and defend across every domain, starting in the Arctic, where extreme cold demands technology no one else can deliver. From prototype to deployment in months, we move fast, co-develop with operators, innovate at the edge, and test in our North. Our founding team includes veterans from Anduril, Google, Amazon, and the Canadian Armed Forces. We’re building hard tech in hard places, and we're looking for system-level thinkers who thrive at the intersection of autonomy, aerospace, and national security. Why This Role Matters Hardware reliability starts on the bench. This role is critical to turning fast-moving engineering concepts into field-ready systems that can survive real-world deployment conditions. You’ll work across prototyping, integration, testing, and low-volume manufacturing to help accelerate development cycles and improve the quality and repeatability of our hardware platforms. From PCB bring-up to harness assembly and debug, your work will directly support systems deployed with operators in demanding environments.
The Role: Electrical / Electronics Engineering Technician (Prototyping & Low-Volume Manufacturing) You’ll be the hands-on force behind bringing hardware systems from concept to reality. This is a highly practical role focused on rapid prototyping, electronics integration, testing, and low-volume manufacturing in a fast-moving defence technology environment. You’ll work across the full hardware development lifecycle — assembling circuits, building harnesses, debugging systems, supporting PCB bring-up, and helping transition prototypes into reliable production-ready builds. You’ll operate close to the engineering team, solving problems in real time and contributing directly to systems designed for harsh operating environments and mission-critical applications. If you enjoy building, troubleshooting, iterating quickly, and working across electrical and mechanical systems, this role puts you at the center of hardware development. What You’ll Do Fabricate, assemble, and integrate electronic systems from schematics, layouts, and engineering documentation. Perform through-hole and SMT soldering, including fine-pitch assembly, rework, and repair operations. Build wire harnesses and cable assemblies, including crimping, routing, termination, labeling, and continuity validation. Support PCB bring-up, hardware integration, system testing, and iterative design validation. Troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues at the component, board, and system level using standard lab equipment. Conduct inspections and validation using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and continuity testers. Collaborate closely with engineers to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and hardware reliability. Operate and maintain additive manufacturing equipment, including 3D printers used for fixtures, enclosures, and prototyping support. Build and maintain test fixtures, harness boards, and validation setups for development and production workflows. Support the transition from prototype hardware to repeatable low-volume manufacturing builds. Maintain accurate build records, test documentation, revision tracking, and assembly procedures. Perform mechanical integration and assembly tasks using common shop tools and equipment. Follow ESD procedures, lab safety standards, and proper handling practices for sensitive electronics. What You’ll Bring Diploma or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology or a related field. 5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics assembly, integration, and troubleshooting. Strong soldering and rework capability across through-hole and SMT assemblies. Experience using electrical test and diagnostic equipment, including oscilloscopes and multimeters. Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation. Experience building and integrating wire harnesses and cable assemblies. Familiarity with electrical CAD tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or similar platforms. Experience supporting prototype builds and low-volume manufacturing workflows. Comfortable operating in fast-moving startup, R&D, or iterative development environments. Exposure to PCB fabrication, embedded electronics, mixed-signal systems, or power electronics is an asset. Mechanical aptitude for enclosure integration, fixtures, and assembly work. Technician or Technologist diploma from an accredited program, or equivalent practical experience. CofA or CofQ certification in a related discipline is considered an asset. No defence background required. We've hired people who didn't tick every box. If this is the work you want to do, please apply anyway.
