Game Design SME

About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Game Design SME (Subject Matter Expert) based in Brazil.

This role offers an opportunity to shape the design systems behind interactive learning experiences by transforming existing game engines and visual templates into scalable, reusable frameworks. You will combine visual design expertise, gameplay systems thinking, and technical documentation to create configurable solutions that support efficient content development. Working across design, art, and engineering disciplines, you will establish consistent visual standards and intuitive gameplay experiences. You will help translate complex subject matter into engaging visual interactions, progression systems, and meaningful feedback mechanisms. The role requires independent decision-making, strong technical direction, and a focus on usability and design quality. As a remote contractor, you will contribute to innovative projects in a collaborative, delivery-focused environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Graphics and Systems Template Abstraction: Audit existing game assets, user interface systems, and visual layouts to develop reusable, modular graphics templates and scalable design frameworks.

  • Configurable Design Systems: Transform visual components and core gameplay mechanics into flexible parameters that enable non-technical content creators to customize interactive experiences efficiently.

  • Design and Engineering Collaboration: Partner with engineering and art teams to define technical specifications, asset requirements, and workflows for scalable content and graphics pipelines.

  • Gameplay and Interaction Design: Design intuitive gameplay loops, progression frameworks, visual feedback systems, and reward structures for interactive learning modules.

  • Visual Standards and UI/UX Consistency: Establish and document interface standards, visual design patterns, usability principles, and aesthetic benchmarks across game templates.

  • Visual Communication: Develop clear and engaging visual frameworks that translate complex subject matter into accessible, user-centered interactive experiences.

  • Technical Consultation: Serve as a game design and visual layout expert during client scoping, requirements discussions, and custom configuration reviews.

  • Design Quality Assurance: Conduct iterative design reviews, visual audits, and usability assessments to ensure consistency, functionality, and high production standards.

  • Documentation and Specifications: Produce comprehensive style guides, asset specifications, configuration parameters, and technical documentation to support implementation and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements:

  • Professional Experience: At least four years of professional game design experience, particularly in visual design systems, UI/UX, graphics template development, or the evolution of existing game frameworks.

  • Modular Design Expertise: Demonstrated experience designing or modularizing visual game assets, level templates, interface frameworks, or reusable design systems.

  • Visual and Technical Skills: Strong understanding of visual communication, graphic asset pipelines, integration workflows, and user-centered design principles.

  • UI/UX and Systems Thinking: Ability to create consistent visual experiences while balancing usability, gameplay mechanics, customization, and technical constraints.

  • Technical Documentation: Experience producing clear design specifications, style guides, and configuration documentation that support collaboration between creative and engineering teams.

  • Independent Execution: Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound professional judgment, establish technical direction, and manage deliverables from concept through implementation.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with designers, artists, engineers, product stakeholders, and clients.

  • Quality and Continuous Improvement: A proactive approach to design reviews, iterative refinement, problem-solving, and maintaining high standards across interactive products.

Benefits:

  • Remote-First Work: Flexibility to work remotely while remaining connected with a distributed team.

  • Collaborative Environment: The opportunity to work alongside talented professionals in a supportive, innovative, and fast-paced setting.

  • Creative and Technical Impact: The opportunity to influence the design of scalable interactive learning systems and reusable game frameworks.

  • Professional Autonomy: Scope to take ownership of deliverables, exercise independent judgment, and contribute specialized expertise to meaningful projects.
