Magnetic is building the AI tax preparation platform for modern CPA firms and we're growing fast, with dozens of firms already using us for returns and clear pacing towards millions of ARR in our first year operating. Founded by longtime friends and former coworkers Thomas Shelley and Patrick Fay, our mission is to free tax and accounting firms from unsustainable, 100-hour weeks during tax season, while improving the quality of service their clients receive.
We're hiring a founding Account Executive: the first person whose full-time job will be to grow our ARR by closing new businesses. Your mission is simple: sell CPA and tax firms a way out of the 100-hour weeks and build the sales engine that lets Magnetic scale from dozens of firms to thousands.
This is a high-ownership, high-upside role for a real closer. While you’ll be supported by our Head of Growth, CEO and the rest of the growth team, essentially you will be the sole owner of net-new customer acquisition.
Your first months are about ramping fast, getting deals across the line, and learning how firms buy. From there, scope will expand. You’ll work closely with leadership to translate your learnings and what’s working into playbooks, iterating on the sales process, designing and running your own experiments on outbound, promos, and closing, and helping to hire and train any additional reps.
This is a founding role with a clear path to sales leadership as the business grows. If you want to own the number, build the playbook, and grow into leading the team, read on.
You are a closer, first and foremost. You have a track record of consistently hitting and beating quota, and you know how to move a deal from "interested" to "signed" without letting pipeline go stale.
You are hungry. You don't wait for deals to come to you. You create your own at-bats, follow up relentlessly, and take ownership of the outcome — not just the activity.
You are comfortable in ambiguity. This is an early, founding role. The process is built but we’re always improving and iterating, which you’re expected to have a large impact on. That excites you rather than frustrates you.
You are consultative. You're selling to busy firm owners and partners who know their pain and taxes intimately, but don’t really understand tech and AI as much. You listen, you diagnose, and you sell the outcome, but also know when they’re not the right fit and don’t try to force the sale.
You are disciplined about your pipeline and clear in your communication. You keep your CRM honest and are proactive in communicating both internally and to your prospects. You basically live in Slack, email and the CRM.
You are an owner. You view the pipeline as yours to grow, manage and also fix if things are broken. To the extent that you can influence revenue or growth as a whole, you’re eager to because that’s how we all win.
We're fully remote and hire across the US — where you're based doesn't matter to us, results do.
Magnetic's growth depends on getting our product into the hands of the firms that need it most.
Our AI does increasingly powerful work, and the market is enormous: 80M US personal returns filed through professionals every year, in a $2B+ outsourcing market where firms pay $100K–$1M a year for inferior services.
Done well, you won't just hit a number — you'll define how Magnetic sells, build the playbook the next reps run, and grow into the person who leads them while making a huge impact on how firms do returns.
