About the role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Frontend) with 5+ years of experience building production, consumer-facing frontend software to shape the experiences patients and physicians use every day at Counsel Health, an AI-native medical practice. This is not a "pure" frontend role like you'd find at a big company. We want an engineer with strong computer science fundamentals who specializes in frontend, understands the backend, and thinks about the second- and third-order effects of what they build. Counsel has grown to about 25 engineers and is moving from hiring only full-stack generalists to hiring specialists, so you'll have a lot of ownership over how our product looks and feels. You'll be helping to build the new front door to primary care: AI-augmented, supervised by physicians, and available 24/7.
What will you be doing?
- Building and owning the patient experience across Counsel's messaging-first app and website, and keeping it polished, fast, and accessible
- Building the "clinician cockpit," a screen packed with information for our in-house physicians, so they see the right data (including wearables data from partners like Oura) at the right time for every patient
- Working closely with backend and internal AI teams to turn AI/LLM capabilities, enterprise partner integrations, and new chronic-condition care features into real product experiences
- Shaping frontend architecture in TypeScript, React, and Next.js, including design systems, state management, testing, and web performance
- Iterating quickly based on direct feedback from Counsel's own physicians (who are in our Slack), and working closely with a newly expanded Product team
