About the role
Frontend Engineer (UI/UX)
We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to design and build modern, responsive web applications for Command & Control (C2) and collaborative autonomy platforms. You'll create intuitive, high-performance interfaces for mission management, autonomous system coordination, mapping, and real-time decision support while helping shape the future of autonomy at scale.
What It's Like to Work Here
We're a fast-paced engineering team that believes the best products are built by testing early, iterating often, and shipping quickly. Engineers have a high degree of ownership and work across the entire product lifecycle—from idea to deployment.
Field testing is a core part of how we build. We prefer to be on the water daily, validating new features, observing operators, and seeing our systems perform in real-world conditions. That direct connection between engineering and field operations helps us make better design decisions, move faster, and build products that solve real problems.
What You'll Work On
- Design and build modern web applications using React, Redux, and TypeScript.
- Shape the user experience for next-generation Command & Control (C2) and collaborative autonomy platforms.
- Build intuitive interfaces for planning, monitoring, and coordinating teams of autonomous systems.
- Help evolve collaborative autonomy from smaller coordinated teams to large, heterogeneous fleets operating across domains.
- Design user experiences that enable operators to confidently command, monitor, and manage increasingly complex autonomous missions at scale.
- Build interactive mapping, mission planning, and situational awareness experiences using Mapbox, MapLibre, and real-time geospatial data.
- Create real-time dashboards and operational visualizations powered by live telemetry, WebSockets, and cloud services.
- Build scalable frontend architecture that supports increasingly complex missions, larger deployments, and new autonomous capabilities.
- Work closely with autonomy, robotics, and backend engineers to rapidly prototype, test, and deploy new capabilities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building production web applications with React.
- Strong experience with Redux (or similar state management libraries).
- Experience with Mapbox, MapLibre, or other interactive mapping frameworks.
- Strong understanding of TypeScript, modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Strong UI/UX skills with an eye for clean, intuitive, and visually polished interfaces.
- Ability to simplify complex operational workflows into intuitive user experiences.
- Experience consuming REST APIs, WebSockets, connectRPC, or gRPC services.
- Experience building responsive, production-quality web applications.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and Agile development practices.
Nice to Have
- Experience developing Command & Control (C2), collaborative autonomy, mission planning, robotics, or autonomous systems software.
- Experience with mapping, telemetry, real-time operational visualization, or fleet management systems.
- Familiarity with Figma, design systems, or component libraries.
- Experience with Deck.gl, D3.js, or other visualization libraries.
- Working knowledge of Go and AWS.
- Experience with Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of WebRTC or SRT streaming.
