About the role

About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Achieving this goal requires deep engagement with policymakers, regulators, institutions, and communities shaping the future of AI.

The Global Affairs team builds authentic, collaborative relationships with public officials and the broader AI policymaking community to ensure that external perspectives inform our work and that policy frameworks support the safe and beneficial development of AI. We work closely with research, product, policy, legal, communications, and go-to-market teams to anticipate emerging issues, shape responsible policy outcomes, and advance OpenAI’s mission around the world.

About the Role

OpenAI is seeking a Latam Public Policy Associate to support its public policy work in Brazil and help coordinate regional initiatives across Latin America. This individual contributor role reports to Nicolas Andrade.

Brazil will remain the role’s primary focus, building on ongoing policy research, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery. The role will also provide program management and general support on regional policy issues, working with the Head of LATAM Public Policy and colleagues across OpenAI. Regional assignments will be agreed with Nicolas Andrade.

In this role, you will:

  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political developments relevant to OpenAI in Brazil, and prepare concise updates on their implications for the team.
  • Draft policy research, briefing notes, talking points, presentations, and correspondence for internal discussions and external engagements.
  • Support Brazil stakeholder engagement with government, regulators, civil society, academia, and industry, including meeting preparation, stakeholder mapping, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate selected public policy programs and initiatives across Latin America, maintaining workplans, owners, milestones, deadlines, and action items.
  • Provide research and general support on regional policy questions, consolidating country-team input and preparing comparative summaries and briefing materials.
  • Support events, roundtables, executive visits, partnerships, and educational initiatives, including logistics, materials, stakeholder coordination, and follow-up.
  • Work with policy, legal, communications, partnerships, and other relevant teams to obtain input, track reviews, and keep agreed activities on schedule.
  • Help adapt and review policy and program materials for Brazilian audiences, coordinating with local colleagues on materials for other Latin American markets.
  • Maintain shared trackers, engagement records, and regular updates on program progress, outcomes, risks, and next steps.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy combining policy research and writing with practical coordination and delivery.
  • Are organized, attentive to detail, and reliable in following through on commitments.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and countries, and communicate clearly when priorities or timelines change.
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion, know when to seek guidance, and are curious about AI and its implications for the region.

We're looking for a blend of:

  • 6+ years of experience in public policy, government relations, policy research, or a related field, including work on technology or digital policy.
  • Familiarity with Brazilian institutions and legislative and regulatory processes, and an interest in policy developments across Latin America.
  • Experience preparing clear research, briefings, and written materials for different audiences.
  • Experience coordinating projects or programs involving multiple stakeholders, with the ability to manage timelines, track deliverables, and follow up.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
  • An academic background in political science, public policy, law, international relations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
