Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer, ISR

Berlin, Germany

About the role

Role highlights:

  • Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer, ISR

  • Location: Berlin, Germany

  • Department: ISR Analytics

  • Reports to: VP of ISR Analytics

  • Employment type: Permanent

  • Workplace model: Hybrid

  • Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required)

Why this role matters:

ICEYE's Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) team builds products that put ICEYE satellite data to work for military and intelligence users. We deliver tactical and strategic intelligence to sovereign mission customers, many of them using space-based data at scale for the first time. The team brings together military intelligence, data science and AI, and software engineering.

Our products run in secure, sovereign environments. We develop in the cloud for convenience, but customers run the product on their own servers, often in air-gapped networks.

This role is not about keeping one system running and tuning it. Here, every environment is temporary: you build the automation that creates, ships, upgrades and tears down complete deployments, reliably and repeatably, in places with no internet access. You work inside the product team, not beside it, and many of your changes will touch the application codebase.

Who We Are

ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth.

ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system.

ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future.

Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

  • Build and own the automation that packages our product and deploys it to on-prem and air-gapped customer environments.

  • Write tooling (mostly Python) that fills the gaps between off-the-shelf tools, rather than only configuring them.

  • Provision and manage infrastructure from bare metal and hypervisors up to Kubernetes, and make it reproducible from code.

  • Keep cloud development environments fast and disposable, so engineers can spin up a full stack on demand.

  • Build CI/CD pipelines that produce signed, versioned, offline-installable releases.

  • Set up observability that works when nobody can reach the system from outside.

  • Spot what the team needs next and raise it, without waiting to be asked.

What we’re looking for

Must haves:

  • Senior hands-on engineer (not an engineering manager or architect role).

  • Strong experience building infrastructure and deployment automation, not only operating existing systems.

  • Solid coding skills in Python, or deep experience in another language (for example Go) and willingness to work in Python.

  • Daily use of AI tools in engineering work, beyond chat: generating and reviewing code, configuration and tests (for example Claude Code, Cursor).

  • High autonomy: you find problems, propose fixes and drive them through.

  • Motivation to work in new defense: building technology used by defense forces.

Nice to haves:

  • On-prem or datacenter experience: bootstrapping servers, virtualization (VMware, Proxmox), storage and networking, not just public cloud.

  • Delivered to air-gapped or otherwise restricted environments.

  • Release engineering: shipping a packaged product to many customer environments on a fixed schedule.

  • Built internal tools and automation used by other engineers (a CLI, an operator, a provisioning service).

  • Operated PostgreSQL in production (upgrades, backups, migrations); PostGIS a plus.

  • Strong IC track record in a startup or a fast-changing company launching new products.

  • Comfortable in an environment where process and requirements change often and are not always fully defined.

  • Clear communicator who works well with experienced, opinionated engineers.
