Pelago has scaled to helping hundreds of employers and health plans and has already helped more than 750,000 members manage their substance use better. We have recently closed our Series C and raised over $151m from leading global investors. If you are passionate about making an impact on the health of others, join us and make it happen!

Role Overview:

As the Pelago programme continues to reach more members, we are constantly seeking to improve the quality of the care they receive. Part of that is done by ensuring they get the best possible experience when using our Android app. We have a lot of exciting projects lined up and are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to join the team.

We’re seeking someone with a broad understanding of software design patterns and deep knowledge of Kotlin, Xcode, Android, and the Apple ecosystem. In this role, you will need to be comfortable taking ownership of a project, identifying opportunities for improvements, and implementing them while taking into account other product priorities. It’s best if you have experience automating tests as part of a continuous integration pipeline and are able to discuss code coverage requirements and achievements with ease.

In this role, you will...

  • Build and maintain the Pelago Android app, providing our members with the best possible care
  • Work in an agile environment as part of a cross-functional squad, taking full ownership of feature development
  • Collaborate with a product manager and a designer, coming up with creative solutions to the challenges we’re facing together
  • Review and iterate on designs and wireframes, using your expertise to help shape the product
  • Be the go-to person when it comes to Android knowledge for folks at all levels throughout the organisation
  • Work alongside other engineers on the technical roadmap, constantly seeking to improve our codebase and workflows
  • Deliver a great app experience by applying engineering best practices (testing, continuous integration/deployment, etc.)

The background we're looking for...

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience
  • Strong knowledge of Kotlin (92% of our codebase) and comfortable with Java
  • Up-to-date with the Android ecosystem (Retrofit, Hilt, Jetpack Compose)
  • A solid understanding of software design patterns, in particular, MVVM and clean architecture
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and working with tools like Postman
  • An eye for design and a focus on providing our members with a great UX (awareness of mobile UX best practices, accessibility, etc.)
  • Expertise testing on Android (unit testing & UI testing) and how to automate it
  • Experience maintaining continuous integration/deployment pipelines (preferably on Bitrise)
  • A desire to work on something meaningful and have an impact - what we do changes lives!
