What it is
npx standout is an optional, open command-line tool published by Standout. You run it on your own machine with a single command:
npx standout
It builds a developer profile from how you actually work with AI coding tools, so you can be matched with relevant opportunities without filling out a long form. It's optional, and nothing is sent to Standout until you review and approve it.
How the tool works
The tool reads and summarizes your activity on your own machine. Your raw files never leave your computer.
- It reads, on your machine. Your local AI coding history (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), your public Git activity, and your development environment.
- It summarizes locally. It computes aggregate statistics and a short profile from that activity. Raw files stay on your computer.
- It redacts secrets first. Before anything leaves your machine, it strips recognizable credentials (see “What we don't take” below).
- You review, then submit. It shows you your profile and cards first. Only if you approve is it sent over an encrypted connection to standout.work and stored in your Standout profile.
What data we receive
When you choose to submit, the profile we receive may include:
- Identity & contact. Your name, email, location, and the links you make public (GitHub, LinkedIn, X, personal website).
- Public professional data. Your public GitHub activity (repositories, languages, contribution patterns) and publicly available career and education info.
- AI coding usage statistics. Metrics such as sessions, hours, active days, streaks, token counts, languages, frameworks, tool-call counts, the models you use, and how many projects and parallel workspaces you run - across your local AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), for a recent time window. Plus the tools and configuration in your dev setup.
- Sample prompts and conversation excerpts. To analyze how you work with AI, the tool also sends a limited set of your actual prompts and short, truncated user-and-assistant exchanges from your recent sessions. These are capped in number and length and run through the secret-redaction pass first. This is real text from your sessions - not just counts - but it is not your source code or your full conversations.
- Your stated preferences. Role type, availability, compensation expectations, and similar details you provide.
From this, we also generate a short written summary of your work style.
What we don't take
- Your source code or full files. The tool does not upload the contents of your repositories or private files. The prompt and conversation excerpts above are bounded and truncated - never your codebase or complete chat logs.
- Secrets and credentials. Before any data leaves your machine, the tool runs a redaction pass that strips recognizable secrets - including API keys, access tokens, private keys, and JWTs (for example, Anthropic, OpenAI, GitHub, AWS, Google, Slack, and Stripe credential formats).
- Anything you have not approved. You see your profile before it is submitted and can choose not to send it.
Redaction is automated pattern-matching and is provided on a best-effort basis. We recommend reviewing the generated profile before submitting.
How we use it
We use your profile to match you with relevant opportunities - the same way we use the rest of your Standout profile, as described in our main Privacy Policy.
Your control
- Review. You preview your profile before any submission.
- Access & update. View and edit your profile in your dashboard at standout.work/me.
- Delete. Remove your data at any time from standout.work/me/settings, or by emailing [email protected].
