AI Research Scientist

We are looking for an AI Research Scientist with a relevant PhD and 3-7 years of applied research experience at a startup, AI lab or big tech company. This is a principal-level IC role where you would own the research behind how Archie, our AI engineer for the physical world, learns, adapts and improves over time. Unlike pure lab research, your work goes straight into customers' hands as we move Archie from junior engineer toward engineering superintelligence.

What will you be doing?

• Owning P-1 AI's research agenda for continual learning, fast adaptation, self-improvement and memory formation, from 0 to 1
• Setting technical direction as a principal-level IC on a team of about 10 AI researchers and engineers
• Refining the big research ideas on our roadmap and running them from day one
• Taking research into production with the AI and software engineers, from data generation to evaluation to product integration
• Pushing for breakthroughs that make Archie smarter, and publishing state-of-the-art research along the way

Key Requirements

• PhD (or equivalent experience) in CS, Robotics, Engineering, Math, Physics or a related field, plus about 3-7 years of applied or production research
• Deep research experience in continual or lifelong learning, self-improving systems, memory systems, meta-learning, RL or model adaptation (long-horizon agentic AI is a strong plus)
• Hands-on post-training experience (e.g., SFT, RL)
• Has applied research in practice and can turn ideas into working production systems, not just theory
• Fluent in Python, PyTorch or JAX, and distributed training; thrives in a scrappy, fast-moving startup with high ownership
