Plasmidsaurus is the world's fastest DNA sequencing company — $15 overnight plasmid sequencing, $50 three-day RNA-seq — and we need another builder on our automation team to keep scaling. We have ~100 robots in our main Louisville lab alone, 10 labs globally, and we build everything ourselves because off-the-shelf integrators are too slow, too limited, and too clunky. This is a high-agency IC role on a 5-person team reporting to the automation team lead. If you're the kind of person who would hack a 3D printer into a liquid handler on a weekend, we want to talk.
What will you be doing?
Building custom robotic systems from first principles — 3D printing parts, reprogramming machines to do things they weren't designed for, bolting together off-the-shelf electronics to solve problems no vendor can
Working side-by-side with R&D scientists and lab technicians to deeply understand workflows, then designing and delivering integrated automation solutions that work seamlessly in production
Writing production Python to control robots, package instrument data, and ship it into cloud infrastructure (AWS, Terraform, Airflow) for downstream processing
Keeping a fleet of 100+ robots running reliably across 10 global labs — building the monitoring, software, and maintenance systems to do so
Collaborating on new product launches (we ship multiple new sequencing products per year) by identifying what hardware and software needs to exist to support novel workflows at scale
Plasmidsaurus is on a mission to accelerate new cures and promote a healthier planet by unlocking a new level of productivity for scientists. Our sequencing services are used daily by thousands of innovators, including Nobel laureates, Fortune 100 pharma, and over 70,000 scientists.
We began by revolutionizing plasmid sequencing, making it exponentially cheaper and faster, with innovative sequencing technologies and a global network of laboratories that turn samples into answers in hours, not weeks.
Now we are expanding that same disruptive model across all of genomics. With the launch of our new RNA-seq service, we are taking a bold step toward our vision to sequence everything, providing scientists everywhere with faster, simpler, and more affordable access to the data that powers discovery.
