About the role
We are looking for an Staff Engineer with 5+ years of experience to lead a team of 5–10 engineers while staying deeply hands-on in the code. This is a 50/50 split between IC work and people management – you'll build core infrastructure horizontally across the company while owning performance reviews, mentorship, and hiring decisions for your direct reports. The ideal candidate is a senior or staff-level engineer who wants to step into management without leaving the codebase behind. You'll work directly alongside the CTO to offload engineering leadership and drive execution across critical systems.
What you will be doing
- Managing 5–10 engineers with full ownership of performance reviews, mentorship, and career development
- Writing production code and building core infrastructure horizontally across the platform
- Conducting design reviews and code reviews to maintain a high technical bar
- Participating in hiring loops – interviewing candidates, making final decisions, and shaping the engineering team
- Driving execution on ambiguous, fast-moving projects in a rapidly scaling AI data infrastructure company
