About the role
We are looking for an Experimental Physicist with a PhD (and ideally postdoctoral or industry research experience) to join Extropic and take full ownership of designing, executing, and analyzing experiments on our novel thermodynamic computing chips. You will be the hands-on physicist responsible for extracting critical data from our existing test chips and helping validate our next-generation large-scale chip — work that directly shapes the architecture of hardware no one else in the world is building. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the frontier of physics and electronics, where your experimental findings will have outsized impact on the company's trajectory.
What will you be doing?
- Design and carry out characterization experiments on Extropic's taped-out chips, including noise measurements (1/f noise), I-V characteristics, and time series analysis — often involving multi-day measurement campaigns
- Develop and automate custom measurement setups using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, SMUs, probe stations) and embedded platforms (AMD FPGAs programmed in C)
- Perform advanced signal processing and data analysis in Python, including FFT analysis, noise characterization, and statistical analysis of experimental results
- Collaborate closely with the integrated circuit design team and physics team to translate experimental findings into informed decisions about new circuit architectures
- Contribute creatively to the design of new circuits and computing architectures based on experimental insights
