About the role
We're looking for a Founding Engineer that is backend-leaning with 0–5 years of experience (flexible for exceptional candidates with more) who has shipped production software at a pedigreed company — think FAANG, high-growth VC-backed startups (Series A+), or equivalent. You should be comfortable owning projects end-to-end in a fast-paced, early-stage environment and have a track record of building things from 0→1. Bonus points if you've worked at big tech and then moved to a startup, or have founder/ex-founder experience.
Responsibilities
- Build and design APIs and backend infrastructure that AI agents use to communicate, authenticate, and operate in the real world — this is the core product
- Own 0→1 projects end-to-end, from scoping customer requirements through system design to production rollout (e.g., building out IMAP integration, usage-based pricing systems)
- Work across the full stack when needed (~80% backend, ~20% frontend/other), touching distributed systems, databases, and developer tooling
- Proactively identify and pitch growth experiments or product ideas — you're expected to bring ideas, not just execute on tickets
- Be the frontline for customer feedback and occasionally support enterprise customers with custom deployments
- Write clear, maintainable code and strong technical documentation while processing hundreds of thousands of emails per day through core infrastructure
