About Us

Insurance is one of the largest industries in the world, and it still runs on manual work nobody wants to do. Claims is the clearest case: high-volume, repetitive workflows handled over the phone, by email, and across 200-page PDFs, most of it sitting in systems built in the early 2000s. Software has circled this problem for decades without touching the core of it, because nothing could make the calls or read the documents. AI finally can. Avallon builds agents that run the full claims lifecycle, from intake to settlement, so teams can move faster, eliminate busywork, and get more right.

Out of YC we went from zero to seven figures of ARR in twelve months, and are now growing 3X quarter over quarter while working with some of the largest carriers in the world. Avallon is backed by top investors, and our founding team includes builders from MIT, Harvard, and CornelI. We aim to become the automation layer for the entire insurance industry, and we intend to get there with a talent-dense team where everyone is enabled to do best work of their careers.

The Role

We're hiring our Founding Software Engineers to own the foundation on which every agent and product at Avallon is built. We have autonomous voice and worker agents in production replacing thousands of manual tasks everyday, adapting to brand new scenarios, and serving the world's largest insurance carriers.

What You'll Own

The agent execution platform, the core harness powering every agent at Avallon: turn handling, tool orchestration, session lifecycle. You own provider routing, multi-provider failover, cost optimization, latency-aware model selection. You build the eval platform that catches regressions before customers do: per-run evals, canary deployments, automated regression detection. And you own the developer platform that unlocks team velocity with coding agent workflows, internal tooling and CI/CD.

How we build

A forward-deployed engineer sits with a customer on Monday, surfaces a pain, and hands it off to you. By Friday, you’ve specced the solution, assigned a coding agent to build it, reviewed the output, and shipped it. That’s not aspirational, that’s the current cycle. We design systems, write technical specs, and orchestrate AI agents to execute.

You

  • Comfortable in a founding role as you shape the platform and the product direction.
  • High agency, full ownership. You’re the driver, not a contributor.
  • TypeScript, SQL, 4+ years building production software.
  • Built reliability infrastructure with retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation and observability.
  • Regulated or security-sensitive environment experience. Every action needs a trail.
  • Based in NYC or willing to re-locate.

A few things we believe in

  • Eating well: We provide lunch and dinner every workday from local restaurants.
  • Staying healthy: 100% of medical, dental, and vision insurance covered, along with a generous monthly gym stipend.
  • Getting out of the office together to recharge: quarterly offsites somewhere you actually want to go.
  • And our favorite: unlimited token budget. No caps, no rationing, no "can you try a smaller model." Build with whatever makes you fastest.
