About the role
We’re hiring a growth engineer to accelerate our next phase of growth at Hatchet. Hatchet is currently used by thousands of engineers, from technical startup founders to platform teams at Fortune 50 companies, for all kinds of workloads: AI agents, log ingestion pipelines, code review products, video encoding, GPU scheduling, the list goes on. Our primary ICP is fast-growing startups (which may or may not be AI companies) who have a strong need for background jobs system.
We first launched our open-source offering on Hacker News in 2024, growing to thousands of Github stars and hundreds of self-hosted installations within a few weeks. After raising our pre-seed, we launched Hatchet Cloud, which is our primary source of revenue growth. Hatchet Cloud currently handles over 3 billion tasks per month and is growing at over 20% monthly.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking to work with people who are humble, ambitious, curious and kind. Some things that we’re looking for in particular are:
- Always ready to dive in to a problem: our team is heavily biased towards action and very motivated by difficult problems
- Eager to talk to users and recognize patterns in workload and behavior
- Excited to help others, low-ego, analytical, competitive but also collaborative
- Willing to set and exceed ambitious goals
If you’re scrappy, comfortable wearing many hats, drawn to experimentation, and very interested in using AI tools to automate business and GTM processes, this role could be a great fit for you.
Responsibilities
In the short term, we’re looking for a growth engineer to help accelerate our growth in existing channels by improving user analytics and automation, and using these tools to increase user activation and usage. Simply put: we have more data than we know what to do with.
Some responsibilities we envision include:
- Owning the technical roadmap for our GTM function: defining our GTM stack, implementing systems, automating manual tasks, and brainstorming workflows to accelerate pipeline across self-serve and sales-assisted motions
- Finding efficiency opportunities on the Ops side, from contract review, billing, and revenue tracking to customer support, incident response, on-call system optimization, and beyond
- Identifying trends in user behavior across our different product and marketing surfaces
- Experimenting with automated multi-touch campaigns, from our new signup flow to post-event engagement
Longer-term, we’re looking for someone who can implement new ideas and strategies for growth, and in particular, can evaluate and iterate on these implementations.
Working at Hatchet
Our founding team is comprised of two second-time YC founders, a group of founding engineers who previously worked at Elastic, MongoDB, and Klaviyo, and a small-but-mighty growth team. We’re remote-first but have an office in NYC if you’d prefer to be in-person and plan to open an office in SF in the future.
We tend to avoid symbolic or arbitrary process and we intentionally want to keep the team as small as possible.
Working Hours
Our philosophy is to maximize productive working hours. To accomplish this, we want everyone showing up each day feeling rested and motivated. This means that we care deeply about health and well-being of everyone on the team, and we don’t expect you to work weekends or late into the night. For most team members, this usually means 8-9 hours of highly productive working hours, Monday-Friday.
This role will require some travel.
Benefits
- Competitive salary with meaningful equity
- Health, dental, vision
- Flexible time off
- Remote-first, with in-office opportunities
- Regular team offsites
