Business Operations at Bigscreen Business Operations at Bigscreen In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for cross-functional support across finance, sales, marketing, legal, HR, and general administration handling a variety of projects from financial modeling and compiling investor reports to drafting enterprise sales proposals and managing marketing content. This is the perfect role if you love working directly with the CEO, having ownership in across multiple departments, and solving novel problems at a growth-stage startup. The job title for this role depends on the candidate's experience level, ranging from Business Operations Associate, General Manager, or Chief Business Officer. The ideal candidate for this role has previously spent 2-4 years in investment banking, or someone with an MBA or finance background that wants to grow into a business operations role. We’re a close-knit team of 30 with an R&D office and factory in Los Angeles, CA. Half of our staff is based remotely across the US and Europe. Our team boasts near-zero attrition and an average tenure exceeding four years—testament to our emphasis on long-term thinking, a caring culture, and a balanced approach that avoids burnout and hype cycles. We hire slowly, usually bringing on just 2-5 people per year, to maintain our high-performance, execution-focused ethos. Responsibilities We don't expect you to handle everything on this list, but you will tackle most of these tasks while delegating or finding the right vendors for other tasks. The functions below are not full-time roles today, but eventually as the company grows they'll get complex enough to need a larger team. You have the opportunity to grow to lead one of these departments, or help hire the right leaders for each department. 1. Finance & Accounting Financial modeling to support business forecasting and financing activities Assist with monthly/quarterly financial reporting for investor updates Oversee our bookkeeping and accounting functions; support bookkeeping in QuickBooks with expense categorization; collect inventory and fulfillment data to ensure accurate reconciliation of revenue, assets, liabilities, taxes, etc. Manage relationships with external tax consultants; collect sales data and support the filing of sales tax/VAT in the U.S. and abroad At an appropriate scale, help recruit additional hires to our Finance team 2. HR & People Operations Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding Maintain and update employee handbooks; help coordinate biannual performance reviews Prepare and send employment contracts Help register Bigscreen in new states and manage compliance details At an appropriate scale, help recruit an HR team 3. Sales & Marketing Vet inbound B2B leads alongside the CEO; conduct demos and maintain relationships; help draft sales proposals and keep customers updated on product timelines Coordinate marketing efforts including press releases, blog posts, email campaigns, and social media content 4. Legal Review NDAs, vendor agreements, and other routine legal documents (with external counsel support as needed) Collaborate with the CEO to draft and negotiate customer contracts 5. Administrative Oversee corporate travel expenses, coordinate travel as needed, and manage budgets via Ramp Plan team retreats in Los Angeles once per year (lodging and activities) Design and develop merchandise (e.g., T-shirts, VIP gift boxes) for both internal and marketing purposes At an appropriate scale, help recruit an administrative assistant Special Projects & Growth Opportunities As the company grows, bottlenecks and unexpected challenges emerge. These are growth opportunities to tackle new problems you may have never seen before. Examples of special projects in the past year: when sales volume outgrew our customer support capacity, we had to rapidly hire & train new customer support staff, create documentation & processes, and setup new ticketing tools to enable faster response times. This required executing on software, recruiting, and business processes. when we expanded into international sales, we had to figure out how to handle customs and VAT in many international regions. This required research and execution with shipping vendors and tax consultants Special projects generally fall under these areas: Financial Modeling & Forecasting : Analyze eCommerce/hardware cost structures, gross margins, and cash flow Finance and Fundraising : Build a data room and manage due diligence materials for investors Marketing Initiatives : Contribute to (or own) content creation, influencer outreach, and brand campaigns Process Optimization : Identify areas to improve efficiency and implement new tools or workflows
What We're Looking For 1-4+ years of experience in operations, finance, business administration, or a similar role (startup experience a plus) Experience with tools like payroll, QuickBooks, and Shopify preferred Experience with DTC eCommerce businesses preferred but not required Detail-oriented and highly organized; able to juggle multiple tasks without letting anything fall through the cracks Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to draft professional emails, proposals, and marketing copy Willingness to handle both routine tasks (accounts receivable) and more complex strategic projects (contract negotiation, tariff mitigation, supply chain analysis) About This Position This is a full-time , fully remote position (part-time is an option, if preferred) with occasional visits (1-2x per year) to Los Angeles/San Francisco.
