We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to help rebuild and scale Grid's cash advance platform from a scrappy prototype into a system capable of processing hundreds of millions in originations. You'll be a generalist who can take a business outcome and drive the technology end-to-end, working across distributed systems, financial infrastructure, data pipelines, and internal tooling.
What will you be doing?
Rebuilding core backend systems (ledger, transaction processing, payment integrations) to support 5-10x growth in advance originations
Building high-reliability, high-scale collection systems that make targeted transactions across thousands of small-cap advances daily
Ingesting and processing massive volumes of customer banking data from partners to power underwriting and collection decisions
Using SQL and data analytics to drive engineering decisions, monitor system performance, and validate business outcomes
Designing and operating event-driven distributed systems with Pub/Sub and asynchronous workflows
Key Requirements
Demonstrated ownership of solving a real problem with technology — you can point to a specific business outcome you drove, not just features you contributed to
Startup or high-growth company experience (Series A/B preferred) — must be comfortable with ambiguity and operating without heavy direction
Strong backend systems experience (distributed systems, data-heavy architectures) — at least half of your career should be backend-focused
Data-driven mindset — able to write SQL, build analyses, and use metrics to guide decisions in a B2C fintech environment
Must be on-site full-time in Seattle, WA
