About the role
We're looking for a Senior Android Engineer with 5+ years of mobile engineering experience who has shipped real consumer-facing Android apps and can build a native Android foundation from scratch. You should be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced startup environment, making pragmatic architecture decisions, and using AI coding tools to move quickly. Bonus points if you've built feed-based or social consumer products and have experience with hybrid mobile architectures (React Native, Flutter, WebView).
Responsibilities
- Build Sekai's native Android app foundation from scratch, replacing the existing Flutter-based architecture with a performant native shell using Kotlin and Android SDK
- Own the core native experience including the feed, profile page, navigation, lifecycle handling, and hybrid WebView integration
- Design clean integration points between native Android components and existing Next.js WebView-based pages
- Improve app reliability, crash rates, and performance across budget and mid-range Android devices
- Partner with Product Managers and Backend engineers to ship high-quality consumer mobile experiences quickly
- Use modern AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) to accelerate delivery while maintaining engineering quality
- Potentially grow into leading the mobile engineering function as the team scales
