About the role
What we're looking for:
We need someone with 4+ years of experience in backend and distributed systems engineering who has built and operated data-intensive systems at meaningful scale. You should be comfortable working across data streaming, distributed databases, and storage systems, with a track record of keeping mission-critical services reliable and available. Bonus points if you've been through a hyper-growth phase at a startup and bring a product-minded approach to infrastructure decisions.
What you'll do:
- Own meaningful parts of the data platform end-to-end — ingestion, storage, and serving systems — taking full responsibility for their development, operation, and success
- Evolve and scale core data systems by breaking through architectural bottlenecks, building stream processing pipelines for new data sources, and migrating database infrastructure to handle many times current throughput
- Design and build high-leverage platform APIs and SDKs that pull common data access patterns out of application code and accelerate development velocity across the team
- Continuously pursue operational excellence — systematically remove failure modes, invest in deployment automation, and make holding the pager a non-event without a dedicated SRE team
- Expand the data platform to new use cases and customer segments, designing capabilities like finer-grained permissioning, new data types, and new ingestion sources
- Scale yourself and others through AI and automation — use AI tools to delegate implementation details and focus energy on design, architecture, and creative problem-solving
