About the role
We are looking for a Robotics Technician with 2+ years of electromechanical experience to join a fast-growing robotics team building and maintaining autonomous robots deployed in real-world data center environments. Watney is the only company where you can work on robots that are actively deployed with the world's largest hyperscalers, doing value-add work that humans can't do. You'll be part of a collaborative, tight-knit team of technicians working hands-on in our San Francisco development lab, ensuring robots maintain 100% uptime as they operate 24/7. This is a career-track technician role with clear progression from Technician to Senior Technician to Deployment Manager and beyond — not a stepping stone to engineering, but a valued discipline in its own right.
What will you be doing?
- Live troubleshooting of autonomous robots that operate 24/7 — diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and software issues when robots stop mid-cycle or arms break, and creating feedback loops with the engineering team
- Maintaining 100% robot uptime in the development lab by disassembling, repairing, and reassembling electromechanical systems using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools
- Collaborating side-by-side with engineers and fellow technicians to improve robot reliability and performance based on real-world operational data
- Performing basic electrical and mechanical analysis, checking logs, power cycling systems, and executing Linux command-line diagnostics to identify root causes
- Optionally supporting field deployments at customer data center sites to maintain and troubleshoot robots on location
