It addresses the fragmented and complex US business environment where founders traditionally rely on multiple separate providers for sales tax, bookkeeping, tax accounting, and state compliance.

Role Overview:
As a Founding CPA, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Afternoon’s early operations, processes, and customer experience around taxes, bookkeeping & compliance. You’ll be an operator at first but we hope you will be able to grow/manage the accounting function as our company scales. You’ll collaborate directly with the founders & our customers to establish the foundation upon which the company grows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive and execute on daily/weekly bookkeeping need, support monthly closes of customers and package their end-of-year tax returns following US GAAP principles.
- Drive the strategic direction and design of accounting-related features in our product, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and UX.
- Provide deep expertise in GAAP accounting principles, tax regulations, and compliance requirements to guide product development.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to create seamless, intuitive user experiences.
- Develop and maintain internal financial processes, including financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis.
- Serve as the internal subject-matter expert on evolving accounting standards, regulatory updates, and best practices.
