The Project Controls Specialist supports project managers and project teams by maintaining project schedules, tracking costs, and organizing project data across engineering, manufacturing, and operational projects. This role focuses on ensuring that project information is accurate, up to date, and clearly communicated to support execution. This is an entry-level, hands-on role designed for someone early in their career who is interested in project execution, operations, and data-driven decision-making. The position works closely with project managers and cross-functional teams to track progress, identify issues, and support coordination across projects. RESPONSIBILITIES Schedule Tracking & Coordination Maintain and update project schedules based on input from project managers and technical teams Track progress against planned schedules and highlight delays or risks Coordinate with engineering, operations, and supply chain teams to gather schedule updates Support schedule revisions as project conditions change Cost Tracking & Reporting Track project costs including labor, materials, and external spend Maintain cost tracking tools and ensure data is accurate and up to date Support variance tracking between planned and actual costs Assist in identifying cost overruns and communicating impacts Project Reporting & Documentation Prepare regular project status updates, including schedule, cost, and key risks Maintain project documentation, logs, and tracking tools Ensure project data is organized, consistent, and accessible Cross-Functional Support Work with project managers to support planning and execution of project activities Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to gather updates Assist in tracking action items, deliverables, and project milestones Systems & Process Support Support use and improvement of project tracking tools, scheduling systems, and reporting templates Help standardize project tracking processes across projects Learn and apply project controls best practices in a growing environment SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field Internship or academic project experience related to project management, operations, or data analysis preferred Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data Highly organized with strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through on deliverables Strong communication skills and willingness to work across teams Interest in manufacturing, operations, or project-based environments Familiarity with scheduling tools (Microsoft Project or similar) is a plus Experience with ERP systems or data tools is a plus BENEFITS Health, Dental & Vision Insurance Health Savings Account Disability and Life Insurance 401K Plan Paid Time Off, Holidays WORK ENVIRONMENT This role is based in Oak Ridge, TN and involves a combination of office-based work and regular coordination with project, engineering, and operations teams.
