Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career. About the team The Communications team builds and protects Stripe’s brand and influence across the world. And, sure, that’s what most comms teams do. But we do it with a small team of folks dedicated to creativity and rigor . We’re looking for unconstrained but strategic thinking, not smooth execution of a rote playbook. Design a microsite, launch a podcast. Get to know the products and our users well, and wield that knowledge wisely. Move from idea to execution quickly. Collaborate openly and egolessly. Along the way, provide strategic counsel to Stripe’s executives, help leaders across the company articulate Stripe’s views on fast-changing areas like agentic commerce and crypto, and write a keynote or two. You’ll have a remit with clear goals; how you go about advancing those goals will be up to you. What you’ll do You'll make sure the world gets excited about many of the same things we do: great products and what they can enable for businesses. That'll mean different things at different times: creating a compelling demo, writing a memorable speech, prepping a banger podcast, whatever it takes. And “the world” will also mean different things at different times: a set of YC founders, or Fortune 500 executives, or AI-pilled developers, or VPs of monetization, or any number of other audiences. In general, we've found that the most important skills you'll use a lot are excellent writing, obsessive attention to detail, first-principles thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness. And, of course, a keen curiosity both for the inner workings of Stripe’s most technical products and for how the broader economic landscape is shifting under everyone’s feet. This year, we're hiring differently for some of our permanent roles. Rather than posting narrow job descriptions and screening for exact-fit experience, we want to find people of exceptional caliber and then shape the role to the person. Through the interview process, we’ll work with you to find the right remit for your skills and the right path for your development. We’ll discuss these explicitly and agree on your role together. Regardless of the responsibilities we agree on, we’ll make sure that you touch and lead a wide range of projects in your first few months at Stripe—real work, not training exercises. For folks newer to comms, it’ll be a chance to rapidly cut your teeth; for comms veterans, a chance to learn new skills and gleefully discard old dogma. After that, we revisit responsibilities once a year, tied to annual planning. The goal is to have the best people working on the right things—and then to learn and grow together as things quickly evolve. Which, of course, they will. Stripe's comms team is small, the surface area of what we work on is enormous, and the company is at the forefront of defining the next decade of global commerce. If the prospect of unconstrained but strategic thinking appeals to you, whatever your background, we hope you’ll join us. Responsibilities As we explained above, the exact role and remit may look different depending on your skills, interests, and tenure at Stripe. But here’s a sample set of plausible responsibilities: Lead global product communications for one or more of Stripe’s major product areas (e.g., our Money Management suite or our Payments suite). Lead the development, articulation, and testing of Stripe’s long-term public vision and messaging for that product area. Design and roll out strategic campaigns that build awareness for Stripe’s products and deepen key audiences’ understanding of exactly what makes those products to businesses (as well as the value they add to the broader ecosystem or economy). Create and edit extremely high quality written materials for Stripe’s biggest moments, including newsroom posts, social content, industry keynotes, top tier media interviews, and more. Work with local and regional comms leads to raise awareness for Stripe globally. Develop and maintain relationships with top tier reporters, thought leaders, and influencers. Collaborate closely with your counterparts on the partnerships and product marketing teams. Provide strategic counsel to our executive team, including Stripe’s founders and most senior product leaders. Who you are We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. We value experience, but that doesn’t necessarily mean traditional comms experience. In recent years, our hiring has been 50/50 split between top comms pros and people without any such background, including several former founders. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements Superlative writer; someone who has been recognized by their peers as a truly exceptional writer, with a particular knack for making technically sophisticated topics interesting and memorable Experience collaborating effectively with product teams, partnership leads, marketing colleagues, and other senior executives Preferred qualifications Experience telling the story of a company or its products—including as a founder, a journalist, or even as a seasoned comms professional. Experience in technology, B2B, financial services and/or banking sectors. You’re passionate about Stripe’s mission and/or the quality of tools that founders, developers, and business leaders around the world have access to You’re deeply immersed in the world of independent media—Substackers, podcasters, video makers, influencers on X. You might personally know some of the people shaping these conversations (or even be one yourself), but more importantly, you understand the culture, the discourse, and where the zeitgeist is heading next. You combine the best of what you’ve found online with your original ideas to create compelling stories and new insights. In-office expectations Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible. Pay and benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $154,600 - $231,800. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process. Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
