Software Engineer

New York, United States
Full-time

About the role

We are looking for a Backend / Full Stack Engineer with 2+ years of experience to join an engineering team building financial infrastructure that already processes billions of dollars in nonprofit payments. You'll own systems end to end – from architecture to shipping – working directly with founders and leadership with zero layers in between. This is a high-autonomy role where your judgment and opinions directly shape what gets built, not just how. We need engineers who have strong technical convictions, communicate clearly, and thrive in a fast-moving environment where whiteboarding, debating, and shipping are the norm.

What you will be doing

  • Building and owning backend server applications and components that power Chariot's payment platform end to end – from design through production
  • Contributing to architecture decisions across APIs, backend systems, and infrastructure – helping define team standards and best practices
  • Collaborating directly with founders, product, and engineering through whiteboarding sessions and technical debates – strong opinions loosely held
  • Improving real-time monitoring and alerting capabilities to better understand user behavior and iterate on the product
  • Taking on a wide range of engineering projects across the platform – the team intentionally avoids siloed product lines so you'll work across the full stack
