About the role
What we're looking for
We need a hands-on engineering leader with at least 1 year of formal people management experience (not just tech lead or informal mentoring). You should have a strong software engineering background and a track record of shipping major products in a high-growth, early-stage startup, ideally at a company like Ramp or Rippling that grew its product, scale and headcount quickly. You should be comfortable moving between writing code during intense sprints and handling backlog management, cross-functional work and people development. Bonus points for a CS degree from a top-tier program, founder or founding engineer experience, and hands-on experience building agentic or LLM-based products.
Note: Candidates who have only worked at big tech companies (e.g., Amazon, Google, FAANG) are typically not a fit. Big tech experience combined with startup or founder experience is welcome.
Context: This is a new seat driven by growth, not a backfill. Current managers have too many direct reports. This hire will take over one of the pods within Agents, which supports Hightouch's Agentic Marketing Platform (AMP). AMP is one of the company's biggest strategic investments and central to its goal of becoming the AI-native operating system for marketing. The role reports to Corey, SVP of Engineering. You'll start with roughly 4–8 direct reports, depending on which pod best matches your expertise.
What you'll do
- Lead product development for your AMP pod: roadmap and deliver significant features and products while keeping a high technical bar and making practical tradeoffs.
- Own pace of execution: combine leadership and technical skill to help the team ship faster. Jump into the code yourself when the business needs it.
- Work closely with product, design, go-to-market and other engineering teams to build systems for content generation, context management, insights and campaign orchestration across ad and lifecycle platforms.
- Build agentic systems that combine foundation models with rich customer data, brand guidelines and campaign performance history. The goal is AI marketing output that is grounded, trustworthy and ready for production.
- Lead recruiting for your team from start to finish: identify hiring needs, design how candidates are evaluated, and hire high-impact engineers.
- Improve reliability and grow your people: reduce incidents, catch issues before customers do, maintain strong incident management practices, and mentor team members to keep them engaged and growing.
Compensation: $220K–$400K USD base salary, the same regardless of location, plus meaningful equity. Candidates can choose how to split their equity, which is discussed at the offer stage.
About Hightouch
Hightouch's mission is to empower everyone to take action on their data. Hundreds of companies, including Autotrader, Calendly, Cars.com, Monday.com and PetSmart, rely on Hightouch to drive their growth.
Hightouch created the Composable Customer Data Platform (CDP). It lets companies use their own data warehouse to collect, prepare and activate customer data for marketing personalization and business operations. Building on that base, Hightouch now offers an Agentic Marketing Platform and AI Decisioning. Marketers set goals and guardrails, and AI agents use them to personalize 1:1 customer interactions. This puts brand context, customer data and performance history in one place, so marketers can build and ship full campaigns themselves. In the past, only technical teams could access and use customer data. Hightouch lets any business user deliver personalized experiences, improve performance marketing and move faster with data and AI.
Culture: The team cares about real impact for customers. People tackle problems from first principles, move quickly and efficiently, and treat each other with compassion and kindness. Hightouch looks for strong communicators with a growth mindset who are motivated and persistent. The engineering culture is strong and holds a very high bar for quality. Software should be scalable, simple and extensible.
Growth: Hightouch is in hypergrowth. Revenue and headcount roughly double every year. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has team members around the world. Backers include Goldman Sachs, Sapphire Ventures, ICONIQ, Bain Capital Ventures, Amplify Partners, Y Combinator and Afore Capital.
