$3 trillion in assets pass between families every year. In this $250B industry, the process behind it is still manual: faxes, phone trees, spreadsheets, and grief. It can take families hundreds of hours, often years, to get through.
Elayne is the system that automates all of it. We're a YCombinator and Accel backed company building the AI platform for estate settlement, and families are using it to get through one of the hardest moments of their lives. We have a real product in people's hands, a brand and design language we care about, and a long path of interesting, challenging problems ahead.
Elayne is hiring a Visual Designer to bring our product and brand to life across every visual touchpoint.
This is a hands-on design role for a creative generalist who wants real ownership: to define how a new category should look, move, and feel across all static and dynamic content.
You’ll work on a product that helps families navigate some of the most complex and emotional moments of their lives: estate planning, asset organization, legal-financial workflows, and post-loss settlement. The work needs to feel clear, warm, trustworthy, and polished.
This is not a traditional graphic design role. It is also not a pure product design role or a brand strategy role. You will work across product visuals, website design, motion, marketing materials, print collateral, social assets, decks, and customer-facing education.
This role will report to the founders and work closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and company leadership. Because the role touches both brand and product surfaces, you’ll get to partner closely with the founders on in-product visuals, motion, and interactiveness.
Estate planning and post-loss settlement are hard to understand, and most products in this category feel cold, confusing, or overly legalistic. Elayne has the opportunity to make something complex feel clear, human, and usable.
Design is central to that work. Families need to understand what is happening, what matters, and what to do next. The right visuals can reduce confusion, create trust, and make difficult workflows feel more manageable.
This role sits at the center of how Elayne shows up in the world. You’ll help shape the product experience, the website, the sales materials, the customer education assets, and the small details that make the company feel thoughtful and credible.
Done well, your work will make Elayne easier to understand, easier to trust, and easier to share.
As Elayne’s Visual and Designer you will help build the visual system behind a new category of family, legal, and financial software.
1. A product visual layer that feels clear and trustworthy
You will design the visual details that make Elayne easier to use: overlays, cards, empty states, onboarding graphics, icons, illustrations, diagrams, loading states, confirmation moments, and lightweight animations.
2. Motion and storytelling that bring the product to life
You will create short animations, product walkthroughs, web interactions, social clips, and storyboards that make complex workflows easier to grasp.
3. A web presence that explains the product simply
You will design website and landing page visuals that help families, partners, and customers quickly understand what Elayne does and why it matters.
4. A library of materials the company can use every day
You will design flyers, postcards, one-pagers, pitch deck visuals, customer PDFs, email graphics, social assets, event materials, and reusable templates so the team can move faster without redesigning from scratch.
We are a small, high-trust team building in a category where the work is complex, personal, and important. We move quickly, communicate directly, and care deeply about the quality of the experience we deliver.
The best design work here will come from being close to the details: a confusing user moment, a need for delight, a sales gap, a customer question, or a workflow that needs to be explained more clearly.
We expect this person to use AI tools as leverage. That might mean exploring directions faster, storyboarding animations, generating rough concepts, prototyping interactions, creating campaign variations, or speeding up production. AI should help you move faster, but the final work should still feel careful, intentional, and human.
This is a full-time role based with the rest of the team in New York City.
We work in person 3-4 days per week because the pace, ambiguity, and cross-functional nature of the work require close collaboration.
This is a strong fit for someone who wants to learn quickly, build a lot, and be close to the product, customers, and company-building details.
This is not a 9-5 role. We are not looking for performative intensity or round-the-clock chaos, but we are looking for someone who takes ownership, moves quickly, and is energized by building from the ground floor.
The expected salary range for this role is $90k to $120k annually, plus equity. This range represents Elayne’s good-faith estimate for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will depend on your experience, portfolio, scope, and fit for the role.
Elayne also offers health insurance and a 401(k) plan.
