About the role
Parallax is hiring mid-level mechanical engineers (3–5 years experience) to make up the bulk of the design team. We're building a gas turbine for AI data center power generation — fundamentally an aircraft engine, optimized for speed and scale.
The product is a ~3,000-part mechanical assembly. Each strong mid-level designer will own ~100 parts.
What we're looking for:
- 3–5 years of mechanical-engineering experience.
- High horsepower: people who move fast, think from first principles, and have shipped meaningful side projects or done cool work outside of just their day job.
- Hardware passion + builder energy. We want people who self-direct and who don't need a long ramp on hardware fundamentals.
- Pedigree matters less than throughput. Background in any hardware discipline is fine if the work product is strong.
This is the bulk of the 30-person hiring push over the next 2 months — expect to join a tight-knit, high-velocity SF team racing toward a full-scale prototype by end of 2027.
