About the role
Parallax is hiring turbomachinery specialists with deep aerospace-engine experience to bring domain expertise to a from-scratch gas turbine program.
We're building a gas turbine for AI data center power — essentially an aircraft engine optimized for speed-to-deploy rather than extreme efficiency. Domain knowledge of jet-engine-class rotating machinery is the differentiator for this role.
What we're looking for:
- 3–5 years of professional turbomachinery experience.
- Background at Pratt & Whitney, GE Aerospace, or the turbomachinery groups at SpaceX. Other true aircraft-engine OEMs considered.
- Keyword to anchor on: turbomachinery. People with general mechanical-engineering or rotating-equipment backgrounds (pumps, compressors-only, etc.) are NOT what we're looking for here — that's the senior or mid-level mech-eng track.
You'll work alongside the founder and three other engineers (2 ex-SpaceX, 1 ex-Pratt & Whitney with 5 years there + a prior founded turbine company). Plan: full-scale prototype by end of 2027.

About Parallax
Parallax is a hardware startup founded by Carl Schoeller, a second-time founder whose previous company Theseus (defense-tech) went through YC S24. The company is building full-scale gas turbines to meet the massive power demand from hyperscalers, targeting a ~$1T addressable market as data center operators have publicly requested ~1 TW of new power by end of decade. Parallax raised $8M in pre-seed funding in 2024 and is scaling aggressively — hiring 30 mechanical and turbomachinery engineers with a goal of completing a full-scale gas turbine prototype by end of 2027. Early hires include 2 ex-SpaceX engineers and 1 ex-Pratt & Whitney engineer with 5 years there who previously founded his own turbine company.
