About the role
Growth Lead
San Francisco · Full-time · In person
What is Cartage?
Cartage is building Wilson, an AI logistics team for manufacturers and distributors. Wilson coordinates shipments, works with carriers, keeps customers updated, and handles freight invoices and payments.
Our mission is simple: businesses should be able to move freight without spending their days coordinating it.
We’re backed by Y Combinator (S24) and Paul Graham. We’re looking for a Growth Lead to help bring Wilson to the companies that need him.
About the Role
You’ll own top of funnel at Cartage. Your job is to build a repeatable way to turn the right companies into qualified sales opportunities.
You’ll decide who we target, how we reach them, what we say, and where we invest. You’ll work directly with the CEO and sales team, with the autonomy to choose your approach and accountability for the pipeline it produces.
We’re deeply AI-native. You should be comfortable using Claude Code and similar tools to build internal systems, automate workflows, and ship your own ideas. Setting strategy, launching campaigns, and building the systems behind them are all part of this role.
What You’ll Do
- Own qualified pipeline. Set targets with sales, build the plan to reach them, and track opportunities through to revenue.
- Build internal Growth systems. Use Claude Code, APIs, and automation to build prospect research engines, lead enrichment workflows, outreach systems, and reporting tools. Own them from idea through reliable daily use.
- Sharpen our positioning. Talk to customers and prospects. Understand what makes them buy, and turn that into clear messaging across our website, campaigns, and sales materials.
- Find channels that work. Test focused bets across inbound, outbound, referrals, partnerships, and events. Double down when there’s evidence and stop spending where there isn’t.
- Build and ship. Launch campaigns, landing pages, customer stories, and tools that attract prospective customers. Use AI to expand what a small team can accomplish.
- Connect marketing and sales. Work with sales on targeting, qualification, follow-up, and feedback so the opportunities you generate become customers.
- Make performance visible. Know where pipeline comes from, what it costs, and how it converts. Share what you’re learning and what you’re changing.
Who You Are
- Commercially sharp. You’ve built a repeatable source of qualified pipeline at an early-stage B2B company and can explain what you did and the results it produced.
- Technical and hands-on. You use tools like Claude Code to build internal tools, integrations, and automations. You can connect APIs, work with data, debug problems, and maintain what you ship. A software engineering background isn’t required; the ability to build is.
- AI-native. AI is central to how you work. You constantly look for ways to automate repetitive work and rethink what one person can accomplish.
- Strong on messaging. You understand customers, write clearly, and turn complicated products into compelling reasons to buy.
- Independent and accountable. You make decisions with incomplete information, seek input when it helps, and take responsibility for the result.
- Focused. You’d rather get two channels working than run ten experiments without learning anything.
Experience in logistics or supply chain is a plus, but curiosity about our customers matters more.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 90 days, you’ll have:
- A clear understanding of our best customers and why they buy.
- A focused acquisition plan with agreed pipeline targets and a budget.
- Live campaigns producing qualified opportunities, with evidence of which approaches deserve more investment.
- Working internal systems that automate meaningful parts of our Growth operation.
- A shared view with sales of pipeline quality, conversion, and next steps.
Your primary measure of success is qualified pipeline that converts into revenue.
Our Culture
Taste. We care about clear writing, thoughtful design, and how customers experience our company.
Ownership. You own the decisions, execution, and results in your domain. Bring a point of view and be willing to change it when the evidence changes.
Transparency. We share context openly, talk honestly about what’s working, and address problems quickly.
We have offices in San Francisco and Vancouver, and give preference to in person hires, however we are open to remote for this role.
Apply
Show us a system you built and a growth result you drove. Tell us who you targeted, what you tried, what worked, and the pipeline or revenue it generated.
About Cartage
Cartage is a Y Combinator-backed AI startup reimagining how manufacturers and distributors manage their logistics. The company builds an AI-powered logistics platform centered around Wilson — an AI logistics coordinator that handles quotes, tracking, updates, and freight coordination around the clock.
Founded in 2024 and headquartered in San Francisco, Cartage is on a mission to eliminate the manual grind of freight coordination for shippers. Instead of hiring and training logistics coordinators, companies can deploy Wilson — who learns their partners, customers, and processes, works 24/7, never forgets anything, and handles hundreds of conversations simultaneously.
Cartage's customers span a wide range of industries, from lumber mills and furniture companies to farms and wine distributors. They all trust Wilson to run their logistics operations seamlessly.
Backed by $2.4M in seed funding from Y Combinator, Paul Graham, Pioneer Fund, Wayfinder Ventures, Northside Ventures, Garage Capital, and Ritual Capital, Cartage is a small but fast-moving team of approximately 16 people. The culture is startup through and through — focused, heads-down, and driven. The team works four days a week in the San Francisco office with Fridays remote, and the environment rewards hustle, coachability, and a genuine passion for AI and technology.
