About
the role We’re looking for an Auditing Manager to join Equitable Earth to oversee our validation & verification functions. You will manage independent Validation & Verification Bodies (VVBs), ensuring audits are high-quality, compliant, and efficient, and drive the Programme’s auditing strategy. Reporting to the Director of the Secretariat and working closely with cross-functional teams, you will continuously improve the validation and verification framework, including quality assurance systems, performance management, and procedural updates. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on auditing experience in certification systems, preferably within the voluntary carbon markets and nature-based solutions, or with comparable standards (e.g., Fairtrade, FSC, BCI). What you’ll do Validation & Verification Oversee the full lifecycle of validations and verifications under the Programme (VVB selection, audit mandate negotiation and approval), ensuring timely, compliant, and high-quality audit delivery. Support onboarding, technical training, and performance management of independent VVBs. Establish and monitor quality assurance and quality control processes for all validations and verifications, including implementation of the VVB performance evaluation system to ensure continuous improvement. Programme Development In partnership with the Director of the Secretariat, lead the strategic development of validation and verification functions within the Equitable Earth Programme. Oversee periodic procedure and guidance updates, integrate feedback from VVBs and other stakeholders, and explore and implement innovative approaches to improve audit efficiency, scalability, and credibility. Governance and Market Engagement Build strategic relationships and partnerships with accreditation bodies, represent Equitable Earth in industry forums, and keep the Programme aligned with ISO principles and best practices in the voluntary carbon market. Your first 6 months will be all about getting up to speed and making an impact! By the end of month 1, you'll master the validation & verification procedure, systems, and processes, and gain a deep understanding of the Equitable Earth Programme, including the Standard, Programme Manual, and methodologies. By the end of month 3, you’ll take ownership by developing internal procedures for audit oversight and VVB performance, shaping audit management to ensure quality and consistency. By the end of month 6, you’ll be central to the future of auditing at Equitable Earth, building a strategic roadmap, forging key relationships with accreditation bodies, and overseeing the first audits under our new M002 methodology. What we value for this role Technical experience Minimum 5 years in auditing or certification, with hands-on field experience conducting or supporting audits as part of an audit team. A forestry background is an asset. Lead Auditor certification strongly preferred (ISO 17029, ISO 14065, ISO 14064, SA8000), or equivalent experience in auditing standards. Proven experience in the voluntary carbon market, nature-based solutions, or related product certification schemes. Knowledge of ARR or REDD+ methodologies is an asset. Strong project management skills, with proven ability to manage audit teams or certification partners. Excellent drafting and editing skills, particularly for standards, procedures, or technical documents. Experience managing or supervising staff, with the ability to support and develop team members. Fluency in English required. Portuguese and/or Spanish highly desirable. Soft skills and mindset Strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills with keen attention to detail. Able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and accountability. Proficiency with common workplace tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Notion, DocuSign).
