Founding Engineer

San Francisco, United States
Full-time

About the role

We are looking for a Founding Engineer with 2-6 years of experience to join as the first engineering hire at a YC S25 company building the all-in-one workforce management platform for deskless teams. You'll work directly with the CTO, building on a product that customers already love — demand is outpacing what the team can deliver, and they need a hungry, technically strong builder to help ship fast.

What will you be doing?

  • Own entire product surfaces end-to-end across web, mobile, and backend — shipping features to production weekly

  • Build reliable, correct systems for scheduling, time tracking, and payroll where businesses depend on every line of code

  • Work directly with the CTO to architect critical backend logic, including multi-region support and complex business rules

  • Join customer calls (~20% of your time) to understand workflows and translate insights into well-designed features

  • Use modern AI tools (Cursor, Claude, etc.) thoughtfully to plan, sequence, and ship high-quality code faster

Key Requirements

  • 2-6 years of professional software engineering experience with strong CS fundamentals (no bootcamp backgrounds)

  • Production full-stack TypeScript experience (React/Next.js, Node.js) — must have shipped software that real users depended on

  • Back-end strength: comfortable architecting systems where correctness is critical (e.g., payroll, payments, scheduling)

  • CS degree from a strong program required — pedigree signals matter (good school and/or good company experience)

  • Must work on-site in San Francisco; no visa sponsorship available

About Sira

Sira is the all-in-one workforce management platform for deskless teams. Security guard companies, commercial cleaning crews, and field service businesses run their scheduling, timesheets, payroll, HR, and compliance on Sira. We're a Y Combinator (S25) company in San Francisco, growing fast because our customers love the product.

Founded by the former leader of Intuit's $1.2 billion QuickBooks time tracking and payroll app — a product that paid one out of every 10 employees in the US — Sira was born from the belief that AI could fundamentally transform how hourly workforce management works. When the opportunity to rebuild from scratch presented itself, the founders quit their jobs and started building about a year and a half ago.

Sira automates time tracking, scheduling, and payroll for companies with 50 to 1,000 employees using intelligent agents. The mission is to cut admin work, stay compliant, and boost team productivity 24/7 — while maintaining a human-first philosophy where real people pick up the phone when customers need help.

The culture is scrappy, fast-moving, and founder-led. Every team member works closely with the founders, and customer conversations directly shape what gets built next. Sira values hunger, passion for the customer, and a willingness to use modern AI tools to solve problems creatively.
