Senior Power Electronics Hardware Engineer
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Hardware Engineer with 5+ years of experience to own the design and development of SiC-based propulsion power electronics at Odys Aviation. This is a rare opportunity to be the first dedicated power electronics hardware hire on the propulsion team, reporting directly to the Head of Propulsion, with scope that is entirely what you make of it. You'll be hands-on from day one — architecting inverters, DC/DC converters, and gate-drive circuits from the ground up — at a company that already has firm orders, launch partners (Fiji Airways, Honeywell, US Navy), and aircraft deploying in 2026. What will you be doing?
- Design and develop SiC-MOSFET-based motor drives, active rectifiers, and DC/DC converters — owning schematic capture, PCB layout, gate-drive design, and hardware bring-up end-to-end
- Run and own inverter test rigs in the propulsion lab, including double-pulse testing and converter characterization on bench and dyno
- Collaborate with motor design, controls, and mechanical engineers to architect tightly integrated, low-mass inverter solutions optimized for airborne applications
- Develop simulation models at the inverter level (PLECS, LTspice, or equivalent) covering electrical behavior through thermal output, handing off to thermal analysis engineers
- Support the McLaren Applied inverter collaboration and drive in-house inverter development to reduce aircraft weight and enable more compact, tightly integrated motor systems
