About the role
We are looking for a Senior Thermal Engineer (PhD + ~5+ years post-PhD experience) to join Phasic at the vanguard of AI-driven thermal hardware design. This is a rare opportunity for someone who genuinely geeks out over heat exchangers — not a generalist mechanical engineer, but a true thermal specialist who lives and breathes heat transfer and fluid dynamics. This person will play a critical role as the human-in-the-loop for our AI platform, validating, challenging, and extending what our system produces while filling gaps where the software cannot yet reach. You won’t just analyze designs — you’ll create them from a blank CAD file, ensure they are physically correct, and take them all the way through to manufacturable hardware. Your impact is direct: the better and faster you can design and validate systems, the more customers Phasic can support. What will you be doing?
- Design heat exchangers end-to-end — from blank CAD file to simulation-backed geometry — targeting aggressive thermal and pressure-drop specs, while ensuring designs are viable for additive manufacturing (LPBF) from day one.
- Act as the human validator for Phasic’s AI/ML design platform (Flux) — using 1D first-principles models and high-fidelity CFD/CHT to ensure outputs are physically correct, not just computationally plausible.
- Use advanced simulation tools (STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, nTop, PhysicsX, EES) to drive real engineering decisions — evaluating trade-offs, guiding design direction, and clearly communicating reasoning (not just generating reports).
- Bridge design and reality by designing with manufacturability in mind — understanding additive constraints (support strategy, distortion, post-processing) and ensuring concepts can actually be built.
