About the role
Who we're looking for
We're looking for a Firmware Engineer to own the device firmware stack for a battery-powered consumer health device. You should have deep experience shipping production firmware for connected consumer hardware, with a focus on power optimization and device reliability. This role replaces an overseas contractor – we need someone in our Austin office who can physically debug hardware, iterate quickly, and take full ownership of the firmware lifecycle.
What you'll be doing
- Own the entire firmware stack end-to-end – from hardware bring-up to OTA updates and fleet management
- Optimize battery life toward a 60-day target, being maniacal about every millisecond of power draw
- Debug and stabilize noisy sensors (presence detection, heater control) to maximize device performance
- Build and maintain robust OTA update systems – a bad deploy can brick thousands of customer devices
- Work closely with backend and hardware teams to ensure reliable device operation and cloud telemetry
