Who We Are
At Picnic, we’re reinventing the way employees experience lunch at work. We partner with top local restaurants and batch hundreds of orders to give companies an easy way to offer high-quality, individually packed meals without fees or tips.
Our mission is to create a seamless, affordable, and joyful lunch experience that works better for employees, employers, and restaurant partners.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help architect and scale the systems powering Picnic’s real-time logistics and operations.
This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, working with complex systems, and owning technical decisions from architecture through production. You’ll build backend services that support Picnic’s web and mobile products while tackling challenges across logistics, routing, automation, scalability, and reliability.
You’ll work closely with frontend, mobile, product, and operations teams and play an important role in shaping how Picnic designs and scales its backend infrastructure as the business grows.
What You’ll Do
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress. Founded by Travis Kalanick after leaving Uber, Atoms represents the consolidation of eight years of technology development across multiple divisions — bringing Physical AI to the industries that move civilization forward.
The company operates across three core verticals:
Atoms takes a modular, OEM-agnostic approach — integrating autonomous robotic technology into existing vehicles and equipment (Hitachi, Komatsu, Toyota, Hyundai) rather than replacing them. Both the food and mining divisions are live production ecosystems with real customers, not experimental or simulated environments.
The culture at Atoms is engineering-first. Engineers and engineering leaders make the primary decisions that impact the company — not operations or finance. This means regardless of level, engineers have outsized impact compared to traditional large tech companies. The work is ambitious, often challenging, and grounded in a shared sense of purpose to bring automation into the physical world.
