What this role is We are looking for someone who can own the entirety of a robot, or potential multiple different types of robots. In this role you will guide the work of other engineers, ensuring that development runs smoothly from napkin sketch through manufacturing and support. Some of this work will be you designing and prototyping. Some of it will be working with members of different teams and ensuring we build the right thing. Some of it will be mentoring and guiding other engineers, growing them into leaders and owners. This is a role for someone with strength in making things. You will be expected to know how every part of the robot works, and if you couldn't make it yourself, you certainly can figure out how one would and understand the tradeoffs involved. This is a job for someone who appreciates hardware iteration. Probably you've spent time in places where you've seen things come to life in weeks/months before- clubs/teams, startups, labs, places where you can appreciate what a relatively small, talented team can do when motivated and excited to do so. About Our Roles & Titles At Tutor, we believe great engineers and researchers are defined by what they build and the impact they have — not where they sit in an org chart or what title they have. Therefore, everyone in our R&D org holds the title Member of Technical Staff (MoTS) . Our job postings use standard titles so you can find us, but if you join Tutor, you'll be a MoTS — with a level that is determined through the interview process.
