About the role
We are looking for a Lab Robotics Research Associate with 1-3 years of experience to connect our R&D science with the world's largest fleet of robotic liquid handlers, which has 200+ robots. You're a wet-lab RA who has moved toward software and automation. You'll take scientists' protocols and use AI to turn them into robot runs that work reliably, so new sequencing chemistry can scale quickly and cheaply.
What will you be doing?
- Working with R&D scientists to turn loosely written protocols into clear, step-by-step instructions
- Using AI tools and existing robotics frameworks to program liquid handlers (Opentrons, Hamilton) to run new chemistry
- Running each protocol by hand and on the robot to check that the robot's results match
- Spotting and fixing physical failure modes, like low pickup volumes or thick, viscous liquids that need a different pipetting technique
- Prototyping simple 3D-printed adapters and tools for the robotics fleet
Key Requirements
- About 2 years of hands-on wet-lab experience as a Research Associate (academic or Bay Area/Boston biotech), with a solid grasp of molecular biology protocols
- Hands-on experience with liquid handling robots (Opentrons, Hamilton, etc.)
- Self-taught Python skills, such as data analysis scripts or small programs that control lab devices
- BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related field (a BS is preferred over an MS)
- Able to work fully on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area (no relocation support)
