Platform Engineer (Lab Infrastructure / DevSecOps)

South San Francisco, United States
Full-time

About the role

We are looking for a Platform Engineer with 7+ years of experience to design and secure the infrastructure that runs the world's fastest DNA sequencing company. This is a DevSecOps role with real on-prem work. You'll build the networks, compute clusters and security that move petabytes of sequencing data across 10 labs and 200+ robots, and you'll also own a serious AWS footprint. We want a hands-on tinkerer from a high-growth startup who architects solutions instead of just maintaining them.

What will you be doing?

  • Design and scale lab networking and on-prem GPU compute and storage that stream petabytes of sequencing data
  • Build and automate our custom pfSense/MikroTik network from scratch with Terraform, Ansible and GitHub Actions. The Sr. IT Engineer then runs it day to day from runbooks
  • Own security engineering: set up firewalls, protect our robot fleet, red team and pen test our web infra (including with AI agents), manage vulnerabilities and handle incident response
  • Design and run secure AWS infrastructure (VPC, IAM, containers) and connect it to our on-prem labs
  • Help new labs launch faster as Plasmidsaurus grows across all of genomics

Key Requirements

  • 7+ years in platform, infrastructure, systems or security engineering (DevSecOps with on-prem experience)
  • Has worked with physical infrastructure that mattered, such as labs, factories, robotics, hardware startups or data centers. Pure SaaS experience isn't enough
  • Strong AWS skills plus infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD) and Python/Bash
  • Deep networking knowledge (routing, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs). Has designed networks, not just clicked through vendor dashboards. pfSense/MikroTik strongly preferred
  • Has spent most of their career at high-growth, early-to-mid-stage startups, ideally as the first hire in their area. No big-company-only backgrounds

About Plasmidsaurus

Plasmidsaurus is on a mission to accelerate new cures and promote a healthier planet by unlocking a new level of productivity for scientists. Our sequencing services are used daily by thousands of innovators, including Nobel laureates, Fortune 100 pharma, and over 70,000 scientists.

We began by revolutionizing plasmid sequencing, making it exponentially cheaper and faster, with innovative sequencing technologies and a global network of laboratories that turn samples into answers in hours, not weeks.

Now we are expanding that same disruptive model across all of genomics. With the launch of our new RNA-seq service, we are taking a bold step toward our vision to sequence everything, providing scientists everywhere with faster, simpler, and more affordable access to the data that powers discovery.
