Soma is a neurotechnology company building the world's first software brain computer interface. The cognitive fitness tracker (think Strava for the brain) surfaces trends and insights on mental clarity, cognitive load, stress, and more. Mission: make brain health accessible, measurable, and actionable.
About
the role This is Soma's first dedicated design hire. You won't be inheriting a design system or style guide — you'll be building them. You'll work directly with our Founder to own the full design surface: from early concept exploration through shipped product. We're building something genuinely new: an ambient product category that doesn't have a design language yet. We want someone who has strong opinions about what should be built, can stress-test those ideas with real users, and can ship something that holds up in production. Ideal
qualifications • 2+ years of design experience at an early-stage consumer startup • Shipped full-scale apps from concept to production — not just components, marketing sites, or individual screens • Contributed to building and maintaining a design system, not just handed off Figma files • Product thinker first: can shape what gets built, not just how it looks • Core part of a team that built something people love from the ground up The kind of person we're looking for: a bit of a mad artist. Someone who takes risks, challenges conventions, and brings a multidisciplinary perspective. Deeply curious. The kind of designer who pushes back when something feels wrong. Nice to haves • Exposure to voice-enabled, AI, or ambient product design • Experience designing for consumer health, fitness, or wearable products More info Competitive salary, equity package,
benefits, and flexible PTO. Apply: send resume, portfolio, and other relevant links to [email protected].
We a neurotechnology company building the world's first software brain-computer interface. Our cognitive fitness tracker leverages voice as a biosignal to continuously measure cognitive changes: think Strava for your brain.
Founded by Jiali Zhang, a neuroscientist with a PhD from Oxford who previously decoded memories from neural data, Soma sits at the unique intersection of consumer health, neurotech, and voice AI: three of the hottest categories in technology today. The platform surfaces trends and insights on mental clarity, cognitive load, stress, and more, all through a purely software-based approach that requires no hardware devices.
Soma's mission is simple and ambitious: to make brain health accessible, measurable, and actionable.
We are backed by investors who backed Oura, Canva, Coinbase, and SpaceX at similar stages. Soma is a first mover in this space, building proprietary voice biomarker technology that detects cognitive and neurological changes from speech patterns.
The team is small, deeply technical, and design-forward: currently four people including the founder, operating out of their new office at Levi's Plaza near the Embarcadero in San Francisco.
