About
the role This is Soma's first dedicated design hire. You won't be inheriting a design system or style guide — you'll be building them. You'll work directly with our Founder to own the full design surface: from early concept exploration through shipped product. We're building something genuinely new: an ambient product category that doesn't have a design language yet. We want someone who has strong opinions about what should be built, can stress-test those ideas with real users, and can ship something that holds up in production. Ideal
qualifications • 2+ years of design experience at an early-stage consumer startup • Shipped full-scale apps from concept to production — not just components, marketing sites, or individual screens • Contributed to building and maintaining a design system, not just handed off Figma files • Product thinker first: can shape what gets built, not just how it looks • Core part of a team that built something people love from the ground up The kind of person we're looking for: a bit of a mad artist.
